Small-ish, 6x9 ink sketch of MAN-THING, for the Ferret Press blog's "Character Wednesday" feature. We used to do these every week, then fell behind a little, so we're starting back up again TOMORROW. Even though I hesitate to call him an actual character, and the name is such a painful double entendre, I've always loved Man-Thing.
The right writer could make a great anthology series hinging on him, but it would be tough to not fall into a rut of "idiots blunder into some magical goings on in the swamp, then Man-Thing shows up, gets in a fight, and shambles off."

You're absolutely right. The character is mysterious enough to build any sort of story around - unlike Swamp-Thing, which was a really specific character with a specific voice.

Yeah, I'm not really much of a fan of the character in the first place, as I'm a big Swamp-Thing fan first. But I do love Steve Gerber, so can't fault it too much. It's one of those things that needs to be in the right hands to really work at all, so perhaps it's a good thing he's under-utilized.

Those 1970's Marvel "horro" titles are something I'm only just really appreciating now.
