Description
This tree was at one of the temples we visited, and somewhere around the time after it passed its thousandth birthday, the Japanese decided that the tree had lived so long that it deserved some supernatural intrigue of its own right. So it became a demi-god, I think. (Maybe a full god. My memory fails.) Its ginger nuts became a delicacy, and there were a ton of other plants growing out of it. Pretty awe-inspiring, especially since it was so huge. That rope slung around it and what look like white lightning bolts are to keep the evil spirits away. Unfortunately, the ginger nuts made that tree smell REALLY bad.

Okay, I'm just a sucker for big trees. They don't get too big down here, due to the lack of water.
