Description
Did some paintings this weekend for The Bear and Bird Gallery Starter Show! These babies are going for craaazy cheap and I almost never paint originals so if your in the area you might want to grab one up!Digital Sketch --- I just love sketching digitally you can be so rough and experiment and work everything out before you get with the more permanent mediums.
Print out --- Print out your drawing and charcoal back of printout. You don’t need a lot of charcoal mess on the back just a little. You gunna transfer the drawing to canvas by tracing it.
Prime (not pictured above) --- Prime a canvas’ with a color & matte medium or just a matte medium(MM). MM is a magical art substance that makes everything amazing and I love it. It creates a really nice texture to paint on top of and grabs the charcoal tracing outlines real nice.
Trace --- Place print out charcoal side down on top of your (MM) primed canvas and trace your drawing. I like to use a color pencil or something different from the print out colors so you know you traced everything. This isn’t for a perfect transfer its just to help you get your piece roughed in like instantly. It saves so much time and tracing doesn’t count when its your own drawing
Tighten and Seal --- Dust off excess charcoal with a brush, lines should be fairly clear. At this point I like tighten the drawing (you dont have to) and seal it again with matte medium. This is CRITICAL you seal it this time because if you paint on top of charcoal/graphite it will mix in with your beautiful juicy delicious paint colors and get them messy and dirty looking….
Paint --- Now your ready to oil paint! I’m not gunna tell you guys how to oil paint BUT solid rules of thumb for me are…rough in darks/shadows first, then put in brights/highlights then paint the medium tones in. Go back and tighten and add details last.

Hope this was somewhat helpful! Thanks for taking a look
xoxo,
Babs

It was all well and good until I imagined myself with icecream on my head and it was so cold. XD But I love the portraits, especially the white-haired girl. I don't usually like oil paintings but yours are an exception, and the canvases are so tiny!

Wow, thanks for the info. I've never thought this was possible (digital sketching and then printing it out for this).
