Seems like a decent age to me - You're old enough that you have at least some level of self-awareness and can communicate well for the most part. In her place, I'd accept never getting to drink or vote if it meant I never had to go through puberty.

That time had its downsides for me, though for me it was less due to anything body-related and more that that was when being picked on was worst for me. For some reason it was way better once I hit high school though.
