Description "Now in this island of Atlantis there was a great and wonderful empire which had rule over the whole island and several others, and over parts of the continent . . . But, there occurred violent earthquakes and floods, and in a single day and night of misfortune. . . the island of Atlantis . . .disappeared in the depths of the sea."

Plato

Atlantis. Indeed it was a wondrous place, its beauty holding no bounds. I can still smell the sweet air drifting over the forests from the seas. The fragrance of the white lily's that grew in abundance over the palace walls and the wildflowers that dotted the small valleys. I do miss it, no other place compares to its beauty . The island was created many years ago when the world was still young, at that time only one lived on the island, a woman. Poseidon came to her and she bore him many twin sons, and the last child being twinless, Atlas, became ruler of Atlantis. Atlas' brothers took to the surrounding islands and it was then that Poseidon brought forth powerful waves and many Greeks washed upon the island shore's. Their blood mixed with those of the Son's of Poseidon and it was then that the Atlantian's were born. Through the generations our attributes became stronger; our hair grew thick and dark, our limbs long and powerful. Dark, curved marks appeared on our cheekbones, distinguishing our race.

When Atlas ascended the throne of Atlantis a woman came, claiming to be a Peitha, High Goddess of Poseidon. She took to Atlantis' center, the highest point of the island, and settled in a marble temple. She became somewhat of an advisor to Atlas, and it was she who helped him defeat the Siren's that came to Atlantis' shore. Not many have seen her, but I have had the honour when serving in the palace of Atlas. Atlas' rule was steady for over three millennium, the island flourished and grew and became the favourite to the God's. It was even said that Artemis was seen hunting in the northern forest of Liase. But, shortly after the birth of Atlas' first and only son Hade's came, and Atlas' wife was taken. I remember I was only a child at this time, and a dark, weary cloud fell over the island. Atlas was never the same afterwards.

For the reason of Atlantis' existence is not known to me, or even why the God's favoured us above all else. Although we were not like the others, we were peaceful and harmonious. We did not crave the destructive behaviour of the Greeks, even though our blood was mixed with the vengeful Poseidon. I have wondered if perhaps we reminded the God's of what they could have been if mortal... wistful thinking some would say. But I see it in your face, the curiosity that you cannot disguise. I am here to shed the poisonous rumours and tales of my people, to show light on what really happened. No. It was not Poseidon who took back the island and sunk it beneath the waves. No. We did not dishonour the God's in a way for them to destroy what we held dear. For you see, Atlantis fell beneath the waves because of something pure; requited love.

And I? I am a survivor.
