  I thought for sure she could handle it. Yes, becoming an alicorn was a hefty responsibility, but she seemed to be handling things well enough. And with Tirek attacking and growing in power, we didn't have much of a choice. We decided keeping our power safe with her was a better option than storing it in an artifact or trying to handle what was undoubtedly a threat none of the alicorns could win combined. I should've listened to her when she expressed her concerns about the high magic load. I should've noticed all the issues and stress she was having with her shift to princesshood. I should've considered any other option...but I didn't. None of us did before we surrendered our magic to who we thought could keep it safe. It was only when we saw my faithful student morphing into a darker form that we realized we made a mistake. We made so many mistakes and now...that's not the student I used to know. Twilight's-gone. With no way to defend ourselves, all we could do was stare and realize one thing as she charged her magic.
  This was the end. Of us, of her, of Equestria.

Moral of the story:

NEVER make assumptions about someone's well-being, especially after a massive shift that could cause them massive stress and/or trauma. Be there for them no matter what and don't leave them be after situations like that based on those assumptions. The consequences for both sides could be devastating.
