I think a common mistake people have when designing fan eeveelutions is making them all fox-like. A part about eeveelutions is that there is not one animal they all are, sure some are foxes, but Espeon is a cat, Flareon and Jolteon are dogs and Vaporeon is a fish. Making all the fan eeveelutions into foxes takes away part of what they are and makes them less interesting by staying in this sort of comfort zone of designs.
