Ha I remember those trucks they used to park over there in the meat packing area . And that hustler bar Cowboys near 53rd (before your time I'm sure).

Yeah...I've been nostalgic for a time in New York that I didn't actually live through. If you follow this link to a previous journal [link] and than click the link there to Stephene Sednaoui's video for walk on the wild side you'll see a short film that says everything I wanted my pics to say...only much better.

How suggestive is this? With his hand position, buffed body and big MEAT sign. Did you stage this one?

Staged? Well I posed him for sure.
There's an area on the West Side of NYC where all the meatpacking plants are and it's just a creepy ghost town covered in signs like this.
Real early in the morning the place is alive with guys in butcher smocks and sides of beef hanging from hooks. You can see scenes shot there in "Goodfellas" and "Seven".
Ironically enough it was also the place in the 70's (before my time) where you could go for a little "brotherly action" at night.
Great place for photos but like everything interesting it's slowly disapearing.........

Just had to comment on your comment ... that sure was a hot area in the 70's ... early 80's ... Little West 12th Street and all around. (I didn't live to far from there 19th St and 8th Ave) A drag queen called Ruby Rims used to get up on the bar of the Anvil long about 4am and crank out her version of "I Need A Man." Those days ... long gone but still remembered.! (grin)

I think your going to love this short film by Stephane Sednaoui, set to Lou Reeds "Walk on the Wild Side" and filmed around the Meatpacking district. Probably my alltime favorite film short.
But ya gotta be quick, this film seems to get taken down by Youtube as soon as it's posted > [link]

Fantastic!!! Thank you!! It takes me way back into my sordid sex and drugs past! Now for you ... a couple films you might enjoy unless you've seen them already "Lonesome Cowboys" (Warhol, Joe, Viva, Morrisey) "Outrageous (Craig Russell)" Don't know where you'd find them ... There used to be a great video store, World of Video, on 7th Ave South near Perry Street. The best line in the "Cowboys" film -- "The fuck is over."

Heh heh...thanx David, I've seen those (and just received my remastered DVD of Midnight Cowboy )
If you watch closely at the opening of the "Wild Side" film you can see Lou Reed as the crane operator. Amazing bit of casting on that film.

Amazing is right! I went back to watch. Just ordered Midnight Cowboy last night! BTW ... if you ever come across somewhere that had Warhol's "Lonesome Cowboys" for sale I'd appreciate the lead.

I've only been able to find 'Lonesome Cowboy' as an Italian import but I've noticed a 2009 release of Warhols "Screen Tests" > [link] so I imagine the rest of his films will follow.

Thanks. I noticed that on Amazon, too. I have Trash and Flesh on VHS ...now that he's got the hardware/software I think my partner is going to transfer those to DVD. There's also a collection of Warhol but it's PAL format. I've got to get one of the multi-region DVD players.

London is a lot like that now. All the old dock areas where the spicier side of life could be found, are now either loft apartments or .com companies.

I know! I read an interview with David Lynch who got such a kick out of filming the Elephant Man around that part of Britain and he said he could never do it now cause it's all gone.
Sad, but at least there's the pictures and film.
