Sphyraena Branta is a hybrid created by Professor Quinn on July 12, 20[REDACTED] by artificially combining the DNA of Sphyraena (barracuda) and Branta canadensis (Canadian goose). This is the first hybrid to combine a water-breathing creature with an air-breathing creature.
Sphyraena Branta is a Rank 2 hostile hybrid that is difficult to handle, giving it a utility rating of only 3 and therefore excluding it from being considered for Project [REDACTED], though some potential use is being studied.
This hybrid retains the overall body of Branta canadensis, including waterproof feathers, webbed black feet, and large feathered wings. At the end of its long neck is the head and mouth of Sphyraena, with numerous sharp teeth. It has a piscine (fish) tail. Both the head and tail are devoid of feathers and instead covered in silvery-blue scales.
Sphyraena Branta is capable of breathing both in and out of water but requires water with a high enough saline level to prevent drying out. Tests have shown that fresh water is insufficient for survival of this hybrid. Sphyraena Branta is capable of flight for the duration of time that it can remain out of water (approximately 24 hours or 1,500 - 2,000 miles), flying at speeds of up to 40 MPH. This hybrid has shown to be a powerful and fast swimmer, cutting through surface water with a diving speed of 70 MPH as deep as 30 - 40 feet below the surface and a swimming speed of up to 34 MPH.
This hybrid is purely carnivorous, dinning on smaller fish and nearly any small creature in or on the water. Highly aggressive, it will pursue both prey and adversaries great distances both on land and in water and is capable of inflicting painful lacerations with its sharp teeth.
Despite the efforts of Professor Quinn and Team 7, Sphyraena Branta has been deemed "untrainable" and too unpredictable to be used for any current projects. The remaining specimens have been moved to Site [REDACTED] to be further studied by Professor Wilde.
