A social criticism of modern England? Does it get any simpler than putting a CCTV cam in front of Big Ben?It's said the UK has the most surveillance cameras per capita in the world, and from my brief visit of London, this certainly seemed possible. In every tube station, there's like... 20 cameras per platform? O RLY, Londoners? O RLY?
Ya rly.

You're right! Must be why so many people want to come here.

I realise now my comment may look like London left me with a poor impression, but that's not the case at all. I don't know if it was the camera on my neck or whatever, but the people were unfathomably kind to me. A city bus driver even gave me a free lift! In all, I had not one unpleasant experience with the locals (granted, I only stayed a week, but still). And I was enthused by the business model used by many museums and galleries - permanent exhibits free, specials for a fee. That's not something you find in my neck of the woods. Pretty much the "worst" thing that happened to me was the fact that many places were closed for remodeling before the Olympics and the Queen's Jubilee.
And besides, it's not like my country is a CCTV-free privacy paradise, far from it. But the UK's camera fetish is really something.
