Description Mental Illness Awareness Week, 2008
October 5th - October 11th

Friday: OCD - Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic anxiety disorder most commonly characterized by obsessive, distressing, intrusive thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or "rituals") which attempt to neutralize the obsessions. OCD is distinguished from other types of anxiety, including the routine tension and stress that appear throughout life. The phrase "obsessive-compulsive" has become part of the English lexicon, and is often used in an informal or caricatured manner to describe someone who is meticulous, perfectionistic, absorbed in a cause, or otherwise fixated on something or someone. - Wikipedia: [link]

This is a poster I designed for the club, COPE, for MIAW. I made a set of these to be posted up at our university buildings for every day of the week.

This is awesome!
Its nice to see that people are trying to raise awareness of OCD. (I have OCD, so this is a personal connection)

Thank you! Yes, our club wishes to raise awareness and remove many stigmas about mental illnesses

If you don't mind me asking, what is your OCD? I'm slightly OCD about people moving my stuff around.

no problem!

and no, i don't mind!
mine is for patterns and numbers, mostly.
and also, when things are uneven, like one of the walls at my grandparents house, its wood slats, and they aren't all the same width, and unless I'm constantly distracted, I find myself constantly trying to find a pattern in the slats.

Oh wow! That sounds really interesting! I'm horrible at noticing uneven things, in fact I'm horrible at judging any sort of deviation of length or distance T_T...The patterns thing is really cool though, you're probably good at picking up patterns in numbers as well...future mathematician! Hahaha

I don't know anybody who actually LIKES math haha, I only liked it when it was easy for me...and everybody else was like: OMG UR A GENIUS WTFWTF.

I'm awful at judging distance/size on TV or in a photograph...especially height of people. I'd be like: "Wow that guy is short" and my dad would tell me that the woman standing beside him is just really tall and wearing heels T_T *retarded*
