Description So I'm getting very annoyed that a lot of fans in the horror/slasher fandom (mainly young people) 'preach' about how bad Freddy is because he's this and that. Mainly poiting out that he's a pedo.
And of course people are free to dislike a character for whatever reason,
and obviously pedos are the worst and should just be erased from existence.
But I feel like Freddy is getting way too much hate solely based on that fact, more hate than other slasher characters.
And the thing is, that in the OG 80's movie he was MEANT to be a pedo, but they scrapped that.
So in the movie, he's a childkiller, not a pedo, they added that part of his character in the remake version, and from what I know and have seen, people like the OG Freddy more than the remake one.

But people are still giving him hate for that, all while they love and worship all the other slasher killers, who are just as bad as Freddy, if not worse, and who also in off-script was meant to be something else.
And this is pretty much way of saying: "Hey, this character you like is just as bad as this character you hate, so give them the same treatment."

Neither does "cannibal family".
And again, I wouldn't say he's the absolute worst, there are other horror characters just as bad as him/worse.

Yes, but unfortunately it results to these young fans 'attacking' people who like this character with their reasoning,
and it just ruins the fun for everyone in the community.

No, I don't mean morally right. I mean the phrasing. That doesn't sound natural. Child killers aren't normally describe as "Filthy." They're described as "Evil" or "Twisted." The word "Filthy", when used in media, is normally reserved for more gross stuff. That's why they left the line there. It was supposed to be "Filthy child molester." That's like a big part of his character for me. He's not just some dream spirit that attacks people in their dreams. He's the ultimate boogie man. He's the guy with a scary face and long claws that snatches children right from under their parents nose. The thing that comes sneaking into their bedroom at night. He's the living embodiment of a child predator, ya know?
That's what makes him, for lack of a better word, cool. He's evil. The absolute, unrepentant, unapologetic, inexcusably evil. To me, there ISN'T another killer quite as bad as him. Imo.

Oooh now I better get it.
And I get your point, but I have to say that I personally don't think he's the ultimate worst due to that,
in my opinion there are other horror characters worse than him (like Pennywise) but eh, to each their own.

I respect your viewpoint. Thing about Pennywise that I feel kinda gets him an out is that...A: Not a molester and B: Is technically an alien. I mean...he literally can't survive without doing what he does. It's in his nature. Blaming him for it is basically like blaming a shark. Freddy's just a guy. Just a normal, every day dude that decided to do horrid things to kids. Didn't have to. Was fully aware of what he was doing. Just wanted to. Then when he was killed by their rightfully angry parents, he decided to come back and kill them in their dreams...because screw them.
Just...I love him. He's such a bastard.

I also respect your point, but I feel like you could count Pennywise in because they eat children and psychologically traumatize them,
but I get the point with IT not being an human and that's why it can't be count.
That is true, but yeah again, I wouldn't say Freddy is the absolute worst but I get your point.
I also love that sick bastard.

Funny enough Pennywise was originally in the remake going to transform into Freddy, since it was the 80's and it would harken back how he in the original mini-series and book transformed into 50's horror monsters. Out of all the classic slasher villains Freddy is probably the most terrifying for Pennywise to transform into. Just imagine if they teamed up together.

Oh yeah I read about that, it would've been so cool if Penny did transform into Freddy,
but I guess a little Nightmare on elm street easter egg is also good enough XP

I mean.

They are all killers.

They kill.

Killing is bad.

They are the bad guys.

Why are people surprised if the villain does bad things?

Except if they say something like: "My dearest victim, oh graceful flower, may I ask thy permission to stab thee in the back?"

Exactly.
It just bugs me that people specifically hate him out of them all, the other killers are just as bad as him.

Honestly if a character is well written, I would appreciate them even if they are the worst psychos. For instance I really like the character of Ramsay Bolton in the books a song of Ice and fire (and in the series as well) because it gave me shivers for how well he was written. And he is the King of fucked up characters. In real life I would burn someone like him. :v

Same here, I'm all for well-written characters, evil or not.
I so agree, but I feel like people put their real-life belief upon fictional characters, and you just shouldn't do that,
because there's a reason fictional characters are ficitonal :U (if it makes sense)

Yeah that also worries me a little, like you're free to have your fantasies and do whatever you like,
but at the same time you shouldn't 'glorify' it.

I cant help but snicker and laugh tbh.
I dont think a lot of people realize these things sadly. But im glad your making this point.

Also OG freddy is always gonna be the best, Remakes try to beat that but not always possible hehe.

I also don't think that, and that's why I thought by bringing that up through a comic people will realize that more.
Thank you <3

OG Freddy for the win! XD

Yeah, I remember in an early script for Friday the 13th part, he was supposed to have raped the final girl. It was cut because it would have been too out of character for Jason. I think why people preach Freddy is worse, is because in comparison with Jason and Micheal he is more openly a dick about his killings. It not enough he kills you, but the fact that he kicks you as you are cornered and at his mercy.

Bakhtak In reply to JazzQueen92 [2019-05-20 18:49:29 +0000 UTC]

People are free to say he's the worst because he's a dick about his killing,
my main issue is people saying he's the worse based on something that's not canon in the movie and always bringing that up.
All while not looking at other non-canonical stuff around the character they like.

There are also other killers that are dicks with their killings, that's a common thing among killers that talk XP

JazzQueen92 In reply to Bakhtak [2019-05-20 19:06:38 +0000 UTC]

Okay, you have a point there. Talkative killers really make things more personal with their victims, while silent killers it feels like it just them following a cold instinct.

Bakhtak In reply to JazzQueen92 [2019-05-20 19:18:26 +0000 UTC]

Exactly.
But talkaktive killers also tend to have a personality, unlike killers who don't talk.

You have a point there and Freddy has an endearingly horrible personality. Man, it's also awesome to think his movie turns 35 this year. RIP Wes Craven. His movie built a house.

It is, and Wes Craven was a horror genious.

ISTR Jason raped (or at least attacked) a girl in the second one.

I read up and he didn't. He attacked her only. Heck, the actress herself (Dana Kimmell) persuaded them to get rid of the rape storyline in the third movie.
