So I'm getting very annoyed that a lot of fans in the horror/slasher fandom (mainly young people) 'preach' about how bad Freddy is because he's this and that. Mainly poiting out that he's a pedo.And of course people are free to dislike a character for whatever reason,
and obviously pedos are the worst and should just be erased from existence.
But I feel like Freddy is getting way too much hate solely based on that fact, more hate than other slasher characters.
And the thing is, that in the OG 80's movie he was MEANT to be a pedo, but they scrapped that.
So in the movie, he's a childkiller, not a pedo, they added that part of his character in the remake version, and from what I know and have seen, people like the OG Freddy more than the remake one.
But people are still giving him hate for that, all while they love and worship all the other slasher killers, who are just as bad as Freddy, if not worse, and who also in off-script was meant to be something else.
And this is pretty much way of saying: "Hey, this character you like is just as bad as this character you hate, so give them the same treatment."

remake of Friday the 13th kind of implies he did that,
as for Michael Myers, he kills and eats dogs like every movie he's in almost...the incest thing...well...blame the Cult of Thorn nonsense for that.

I never got how people get upset when villainous/evil characters do, well, EVIL THINGS.

its a trope,
one used in horror, even for "evil" characters in videogames so you know which ones are really evil. The thing is most villains in horror come across less like humans and more like human shaped predatory animals and their killing is so cartoonishly over the top it doesn't feel real.
but certain evils are "too real" so ground the villain as genuinely disgusting, these are things like rape (unless the villain is too inhuman...fantastical rape *see tentacles* is this whole other area of discussion), pedophilia, incest, murdering their own parents, ect...
an easy example is the abduction of children in movies and scary stories.
when Hachishakusama lures their victim outside by imitating a loved one's voice, or Slenderman, or Pennywise pull the same crap on children and drag them off to eat them, turn them into zombies, or what the hell ever; its SO supernatural and outthere that it comes across like a cautionary tale and kind of amusing in its absurdity.
But have your slasher killer driving a windowless van, be human, and grabbing kids as they are walking home from school to take them back to their place to murder, eat, torture ect... and it becomes (too real)
in fact the rating system for movies will differentiate between those as "fantasy violence and thematic horror" vs "realistic violence and disturbing themes".

I get mad at the preaching too! It's mostly all preaching, even ones who actually didn't do crud to none anything bad like Carrie or Glen/Glenda!
I've met people who complain about certain slashers doing something they didn't do. Key examples: "Angelia being a key reason for the murders because she's a sociopath" or "Pennywise the Clown is a child molester" Both are simply shown through headcanons of fanfictions and/or someone believing them completely cause they made it.

I was at a server once about certain Slasher Movies and the movies The Ring and The Grudge was brought up and someone, literally f*ckin, started saying some upsetting crud on them. I can't really say what they said since 1) it was really insensitive and inappropriate in so many levels of LGBT and the characters' storyline themselves & 2) 'cause it was fake as my faith in the big guy upstairs.
I - Like any decent fan - tried my best to call the person out or at least explain the situation is false. The person downright attacked me and accused me of so many levels of lying. Now, I've been bullied on and off servers before so it shouldn't be new, but when they began to beat crud on my Carrie girl...OhHOOOooo shit was gonna happen!
I reported the person for harassment and false information when the server is meant for completely honest users and a happy environment but the person just really wanted me to be mad and, oh Lord f*ckin Pinhead, somehow they compared me calling them out for basically giving Slasher characters a bad name to Mother-Truckin-Devil Worshiping!
....Let that sink in. Saying that is like saying every Atheist picked their path to have a free card to slambang and piss in a Church, at least to me and the server's maker. I left the server even though they blocked the user off since I mentioned I've been bullied on and off different servers cause I'm a weird combo of things people just hate.
Oh! And the Carrie and Glen/Glenda thing, yeaah, there's people out there who put them in the wrong foot cause "They didn't stop or walk away from their abusive relationships so they have just a right amount of all the things that happened to them or the people around them."
Carrie White was bullied and embarrassed and throw that in with a mother who basically manipulated her all her life and "punished" her(I say punish like that as a way that the actual definition of punish is a form of torment that both parties understand one's wrong doing, which in this case Carrie didn't know why she was being punished) by locking her up, meanwhile Glen/Glenda didn't even know they had a family. Let alone they killed. And they did their best to prevent Chucky and Tiff to stop their killing addiction so what happened throughout the movie was never Glen/Glenda's fault.
I'm sorry for the rant, I just hate this kind of preaching in so many ways but feel weird talking about it to someone and find out they don't understand what I mean.

My mum was actually recently getting very pissy over a fake Slasher fan.
Me and my mum LIVE for Slashers of all kinds and agree on certain things, she's the reason I'm such a King's fan, so you can probably imagine us at the mall looking at hoodies when we both overhear a bratty pre-teen guy talk shit about a movie and explain his hatred over basic fake plot lines and junk yet he acts like he seen the movie.
If you want to know what movie it was, it was Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Oof! Did my mum have a field day of wanting to shut him up. But it's illegal so we just walked away and mum ranted in the car ride home.
