Beautiful light and poses. It really shows her character. Good enough to add it to my favourites!

The shot is great, the shadows and lights hit on the model very well... but I feel pity for the poor girl . Her body looks horrible.

Lovely shot - b/w is perfect here - she is disturbingly thin.

you know, i love the back shot, and the pictures are taken perfectly, but i have to say (and i modelled once too, so i know what it is to be thin) thus model looks like a holocaust victim, almost to the point that it takes away from the picture...

The worst thing is: she doesn't eat not because lives in some lost desert of Africa, she doesn't eat because fashion! Great pic, anyway. Love the dirty feeling, and the model, whatever be her mental disease, fits perfect for this kind of shot and does it perefctly good

I was going to say "She needs to eat".

There's seeing ribs and then there is SEEING RIBS.

The photo is cool and all, the mood, everything, is great.
But the model is a little too thin.

the photo is great. i love the lighting, the poses, just the overall composition is fantastic. but really, it takes away from the photo when your model is so thin. i heard that a while ago in europe they were trying to ban too-thin runway models. but it will never happen, because first of all, 100 lbs on one girl will look ghastly but on a different girl will look great, so they cant properly regulate what consitiutes as "too thin", not in any fair terms, anyway. that, and a designer would rather pay for enough fabric for a size 1 than the fabric for a size 4. still, it was a decent idea.

they are using BMI to determine what is too thin and what is healthy.

BMI is complete pseudo-science.

regardless of that, that is what they choose to use.

hmm. i didnt think about that. so did the motion pass, then? cuz iheard that they wanted to but then didnt hear anything else about it...

xauthorunknown In reply to SimpsonPhoto1024 [2007-03-25 19:47:19 +0000 UTC]

yeah, they're using bmi to determine whether a model is too thin or not in spain. they're banning runway models with a bmi under 18, i believe.
and i don't necessarily agree that the model's body detracts from the photo. i think it's what gives it its overall effect. plus, the model might be thin but people have to understand that this guy is an amazing photographer who knows how to use lighting and exaggerate things with it. but everyone's entitled to their own opinion, obviously.

i do understand that his lighting is incredible in most all of his photos and that im sure it does exaggerate the thinness of the model, im not doubting his talents one bit. i also was very thin in my teens which waqs just genetic and i know some people are just predisposed that way, but what i am saying is two things: 1. when your predisposed to being thin, you may be little or even slightly "frail" looking but you neversee bones on someone who isnt anorexic on some way. and 2. it does take away from the photo, its like shock value. this could be what hes going for, but i cant concentrate at all on how wonderfully composed his photo is cuz all i can think is "OMG she looks terrible..."

poking at people for being thin is just the same as for being big - rude and unnecessary.

she's beautiful

SimpsonPhoto1024 In reply to IzzieBubblegum [2008-02-05 21:22:58 +0000 UTC]

i wouldnt be poking (and neither would anyone else) if she were naturally thin, but shes not. bones and ribs showing is not what natural thin looks like. her face is very beautiful, and maybe someday she'll realise what shes doing to herself, eat, and the rest of her body will catch up. until then, all i see is a deseased mind and body, starving for food and whatever thing she is trying to accomplish by looking like this.

I m sorry if you disagree, but a human body comes in all shapes and sizes. even the BMI s not omnipotent to say what is normal and what is not. the girl is beautiful and to your amazement, there are naturally thin girls that eat normally, do sports and have a very visible rib cage.

as a sufferer from anorexia myself- I am offended by your words. If she is indeed suffering from a mental disorder- she knows exactly what she is doing to herself and is unable to get herself out of her condition- that's part of the horror of an ED. I wish people understood more about eating disorders- society sees it as a vain attempt at being "beautiful' when in truth, that may only be a small part that is contributing to the disease- if at all for some people!

I am naturally thin to begin with- so for you to be discriminating against those with ED's- (actual SICK people who can not help that they were afflicted with the disorder) really hurts me. It's as if you are blaming them for their disease.

SimpsonPhoto1024 In reply to Digidrama [2008-06-12 04:10:18 +0000 UTC]

i am not blaming her for her disease, in fact, i dont actually remember blaming anyone for anything (being as this was written fairly long ago.) really, i guess if i were to place a blame somewhere, it would be to the artist for showcasing her and trying to make (what could be) her disease appear attractive. my basic point is that its NOT a beautifull thing to see someone starving themselves, and it is wrong to showcase it in such a way. my big thing is that some young girl somewhere sees this image and thinks "wow. this is what i want to look like." and now we have one more person out there with that same twisted point of view.

Digidrama In reply to SimpsonPhoto1024 [2008-06-12 22:16:28 +0000 UTC]

eating disorders are not the result of someone looking at a photo and wanting to be that photo, they are a complex system- much like any mental disorder. The disease has to be in place for any photos to be triggering- and I mean ANY photos. Even ones of perfectly healthy models will scare an anorexic into believing they are not that thin- that's part of the disease.
