My original thoughts on that was that used pig offal to produce methane gas. Think Barter Town from Beyond Thunderdome. But then, in Maredowell, we saw that the Ponies use hydroelectric power. I suppose some ponies in Rural areas might use private generaters.

I believe the crew for the show came out and said at one point that ponies used the pigs simply for either pets or for finding truffles (which pigs are known for being used for).

Fun fact: in some legends, unicorns ate humans. The only way to dissuade them was to either throw them someone else, or an animal carcass.
Coincidentally, in past generations of My Little Pony, there were humans as part of the cast, but not anymore.

you know... this might make an interesting fanfic. Twi gets a strong taste for meat after staying in the human world and when she gets back she simply can not resist the temptation of eating meat again but has to be careful not to reveal it to her friends.

Pigs are cannibals (seriously, they would gladly eat ANOTHER PIG if given the chance, heck they would eat a horse too if they wnated), so I guess if Twi likes bacon, she shouldn't feel that bad. The Pig would be more like:
The Pig: Trust me, the other guy is tastier than I am. I should know.
