Description "Where do you see yourself in five years?"

Drawing while living out of a cardboard box.

They say that practicing job interviews helps you get better at them. It's never worked for me though. But if you could do mock interviews with Scootaloo coaching you, you'd probably get so good at doing job interviews you'd become a grade A go-getter and land that dream job that makes everyone jealous. Like, being a captain of a freight ship. That'd probably be cool.

This one is slightly random and originated from a doodle I did while "helping" someone else job search. Meaning I drew while they searched.

I agree a hundred percent. It would be nice to see Scoots and the CMC as older mares in an episode.

Pony's with human OCs, that's always a funny thought!
But I don't know what type of human OC Scootaloo would make... Maybe some-type of jet pilot?

"Where do you see yourself in five years?"Apparently "Taking over your job" is not an acceptable reply. Who'd a thunk? Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Bakuel In reply to bbasco2 [2017-02-27 13:12:14 +0000 UTC]

I applaud your ambition and go-getter attitude. In five years I plan to move up in the ranks myself. Hired.

Β

I find that someone's response to your answer probably depends on whether your applying for a boring dead end job or a skilled profession.

In the skilled professional world it's kind of expected that you want your boss's job. That lowly lab tech wants to become a lead scientist and do his own research. The concept artist grunt wants to become the head artist and design the main characters and environments of the movies. The attorney wants to become a partner in the law firm .etc.

Even if you'll never say it out loud, it's pretty obvious and in good companies probably encouraged that you will keep sharpening your skills in your field and want to move ahead eventually.

Meanwhile in the more dead end jobs every middle manager fears that the people under them will replace them. After all, really anyone can do their job and, in a lot of cases, do it a lot better.

The worst kind of boss is not The Screamer, who is convinced that people will work harder for him if they despise him. It's not the Boss-Who-Is-Dumber-Than-You, who is so unfamiliar with the truth that he doesn't know it to see it. It's not the Nazi Nerd who was bullied in High School and now ultra-hypocritically takes his revenge on people like you, over and over again. It's not The Fraud, who sets such an indifferent tone that you feel like an idiot for showing up to work on time or caring about your job. It's not even the Unquestioned Lord And Master, who mistakes chance for entitlement, dissent for mutiny, adults for children, and authority for rectitude. No, the worst kind of boss is the boss who, as the pieces of your soul fall silently away, makes you feel good about your job shovelling shit

Bakuel In reply to bbasco2 [2017-03-01 15:00:01 +0000 UTC]

But civilization *needs* bosses who make you feel good about shoveling shit or other less then pleasant jobs. Would Egyptian civilization have stood for so long if at least *some* people honestly believed their overseers' words that they should work hard for the God-Pharaoh because he really appreciates their labor?

It's the same way with modern corporations and governments, at least some lowly fellows need to feel like what they are doing is worthwhile and that their sacrifices serve the some greater purpose. It may be to common good of the corporation, company, family, country, god or humanity but it needs to be believed in.

While cynical, I don't think of it as necessarily a bad thing. After all, the world may need at least *some* less then pleasant jobs and people to do them, no matter how good or bad they feel about their position. Take literal shit shoveling for example, sanitation is very important. Far more important then a lot of other jobs. The problem doesn't really lay on the lowly worker who fulfills an unfortunate need, but the people who create it. We shouldn't look down on shit shovelers and how they feel about their job, nor some of their bosses and how they may motivate them positively.

To put it another way, the problem isn't shit shovelers but shit creators. Is there anyway we can cut down on the amount of waste in society so we don't need so many shit shovelers? And if we need a percentage of shit shovelers, perhaps we should pay the value that their labor is really worth, or at the very least not look down on another human being for cleaning up the mess that others create.
