Well I spent about 3 hours on the Narnia movie website this morning watching and rewatching all their clips on the making of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and just tinkering about on the site. I am truly excited about the film and it just made me really hungry to draw Aslan. I adore the broody/moody colors used on the website and in a lot of posters/concept images for the film so I was definetly inspired by what I saw and thus my chosen colors.The idea is Aslan simply guarding Narnia and even in frigid frozen tundraw under the White Witch's rule he will bring light and life in his passing. This is also dedicated to all the people I know that have been facing some very difficult life situations. Even in the darkest hour there is hope.
All right I shall stop being sappy now.
Technical details...really it is a quick unplanned speed painting. I should have probably taken more time to develop the concept and work on perspective and design etc but honestly I just wanted to paint. I didn't want to take anything serious or make it perfect and flawless (and flaws abound there are!). I just needed to paint..thats all.
Tools: ps 7 simple brushes
Time: err really don't know..I multitasked so probably 3-5 hours
Size: 3100x4500 pixels (started smaller though as I didnt expect it to go anywhere)
Prints: yes, larger prints available through me if there is interest.
Critique: serious ideas are welcome but since this is a quick piece I am unlikely to work on it again. However I welcome suggestions for future pieces.

That is breathtaking! I'm sooo excited about Narnia, the story is just so wonderful! And now even more excited to see that yooou've drawn Aslan!! You have him looking so majestic and powerful, yet gentle and kind. As he should be! I love this...wow. What a great style, too! It's like...watercolor-ish. If I had the money I'd get a print. X) Gorgeous!

Gorgeous painting, as always.. I like that it's painty - don't get me wrong, I adore and admire greatly your wonderful fur-renderings, but I guess I'm just naturally a fan of the looser style, heh. Those colours and the light emanating from him is just beautiful.. and I love the little snowflakes! What a lovely tribute to Aslan and Narnia

Wow!! I have been waiting for that movie too...starts here at January...I think...lol...Looking at the pic also made me think about Aslan in Narnia. He looks just like Aslan...XD 
XD I think they will show how they actually did the movie "The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe"(with computer graphics and all)...on Disney Channel...

!!!!! This is awesome for a so called "speed painting" It looks like you took a month to do this and another couple months contemplating the pose and colors and whatnot. I also love when an artist isn't afraid to leave mistakes in their work, we all do it, whether we like it or not. I just re-read The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe a couple nights ago, and I am dying for the movie to be out... I think I'm going to convince my boyfriend to see it the day it opens. And I'll most likely see it in the theatre more than once.

Wow... you really captured Aslan. I know a lot of people don't like the undertones of Christ in C.S. Lewis' writings, but this captured the peaceful, serene guardian that Aslan was supposed to represent. Very nice.

Seriously! I hate when people try to argue that this movie is going to push religion down the throats of helpless innocent children. One particular group of far-leftwingers is trying to compare this movie to THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST. People need to lighten up and just enjoy a movie!

Ah, Aslan!
I know that itching feeling to draw him... I was attempting last night after watching a trailer or two myself. The creation of Narnia is always fun to interpret, even though I'm not much when it comes to drawing singing lions. Heh.... a good reason to re-read the series, though.
This is a lovely speedpainting, and doesn't make Aslan look like a wimp or anything. Yeah, I'm a stickler for that, I really like it when characters in illustrations live up to their book descriptions.
