Description Well I spent about 3 hours on the Narnia movie website this morning watching and rewatching all their clips on the making of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and just tinkering about on the site. I am truly excited about the film and it just made me really hungry to draw Aslan. I adore the broody/moody colors used on the website and in a lot of posters/concept images for the film so I was definetly inspired by what I saw and thus my chosen colors.

The idea is Aslan simply guarding Narnia and even in frigid frozen tundraw under the White Witch's rule he will bring light and life in his passing. This is also dedicated to all the people I know that have been facing some very difficult life situations. Even in the darkest hour there is hope.

All right I shall stop being sappy now.

Technical details...really it is a quick unplanned speed painting. I should have probably taken more time to develop the concept and work on perspective and design etc but honestly I just wanted to paint. I didn't want to take anything serious or make it perfect and flawless (and flaws abound there are!). I just needed to paint..thats all.

Tools: ps 7 simple brushes
Time: err really don't know..I multitasked so probably 3-5 hours
Size: 3100x4500 pixels (started smaller though as I didnt expect it to go anywhere)
Prints: yes, larger prints available through me if there is interest.
Critique: serious ideas are welcome but since this is a quick piece I am unlikely to work on it again. However I welcome suggestions for future pieces.

Beautiful. I really love the colours. I've been a Narnia fan since I was little, and it's great to see art from it!

It actually reminds me more of the scene from The Last Battle with Aslan at the doorway.

Definitely a Favourite, and it's on my computer desktop now too. ^_^

A very disturbing image indeed - I like the way how it shows how the wildlife in this world taking over more and more, and if we as humans dont act soon, there will be darkness indeed! Im with you all the way, keep it up!

*sits, stares and sits again* Wow, Balaa.... the composition, colours... Aslan looks so.... regal, but the lighting is what really amazes me though... I love the stars, the castle, the moon.... everything is so serene.... I love how Aslan's expression portrays a deep compassion, and although his mouth isn't turned up at the corners, his eyes show the kind of depth of a kind creature... The perspective looks wonderful, as does Aslan's pose; it looks very realistic!

I honestly have no idea how you manage to do these things... and it's a speed painting within 3-5 hours!! Wow... Even when I spend over 20 hours on a piece, it always turns out so badly.... you're so talented *starts crying*

First of all, you rock my world for creating such a great portrait of Aslan (also the name of my cat... that was a mistake). I particularly love the witch's castle in the background, beautifully done! You said there were some mistakes in this piece, but I don't see any... that may be because I'm a writer not a painter, but I still love it. C. S. Lewis is the author I idle and I have openning night tickets to see the movie! Yay! So please do more Narnia fan art, it makes my day (or night...).

spectacular painting. the atmosphere of narnia and aslan it is captured well. i think it is amazing that you managed to make it good in that that amount of time...i guess shouldn't be surprised though, mature artists usually manage to make things turn out well in small amounts of time.

i want to see the movie, it's been a long time since i read the books.. (like middle school). 'the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe' was my favorite out of those books i've read.

Gorgeous work! I really love the mood of this picture. I also rather like the speediness in which it was painted. Sort of gives it a "tradition" painted feel if you know what I mean. Fantastic!

As for critiques...I guess my only one would be that Aslan's back legs seem a bit short. I think it's the way in which the ground rises behind him that gives that feeling. Still, it's wonderful! Great job!

that is a sexay, sexay portrait of aslan, and i don't think that you should change it in any way.

i love the castle of the white witch in the background as well, you did a good job making it spiky enough.

but the best part is still aslan.
and if i had money, i would buy a print.

Great work, instant fave! This one of the best pics of Aslan I've seen on DA. I'm reading The Chronicles of Narnia now. I'm on the 4th book, "Prince Caspian". Most people don't realize that "The Magician's Nephew" is technically the first book in the series, not "The Lion, The Witch, & the Waredrobe". I love all of the stories so far, tho. Also, Aslan represents Jesus, which is another thing most people don't realize, unless they knew it was a Christian-inspired series. Keep up the great work!
