Description
Well I spent about 3 hours on the Narnia movie website this morning watching and rewatching all their clips on the making of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and just tinkering about on the site. I am truly excited about the film and it just made me really hungry to draw Aslan. I adore the broody/moody colors used on the website and in a lot of posters/concept images for the film so I was definetly inspired by what I saw and thus my chosen colors. The idea is Aslan simply guarding Narnia and even in frigid frozen tundraw under the White Witch's rule he will bring light and life in his passing. This is also dedicated to all the people I know that have been facing some very difficult life situations. Even in the darkest hour there is hope.
All right I shall stop being sappy now.
Technical details...really it is a quick unplanned speed painting. I should have probably taken more time to develop the concept and work on perspective and design etc but honestly I just wanted to paint. I didn't want to take anything serious or make it perfect and flawless (and flaws abound there are!). I just needed to paint..thats all.
Tools: ps 7 simple brushes
Time: err really don't know..I multitasked so probably 3-5 hours
Size: 3100x4500 pixels (started smaller though as I didnt expect it to go anywhere)
Prints: yes, larger prints available through me if there is interest.
Critique: serious ideas are welcome but since this is a quick piece I am unlikely to work on it again. However I welcome suggestions for future pieces.

Sometimes, things amaze me in weird ways. I saw the picture and couldn't help but look at it. While reading your little blurb, I saw the part where it's "dedicated to all the people I know that have been facing some very difficult life situations. Even in the darkest hour there is hope." Just so odd I happened upon this when I've been feeling this way. Amazing work really. This picture does give the sense of Hope in the darkest hour. It also reminded me that there is hope even for me. Thank you.

Excellent job. The colors and shading in my opinion fit the over all mood in the beginning of the story. beautiful work.

AMAZING. Absolutely amazing. I just finished reading the whole Chronicles of Narnia just two days ago, and it is one of my ultimate favorites. When I was younger, I read only The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe and adored it. But the whole seven books are wonderful from start to finish. To go back to the art, I think you really captured the majesty and beacon of hope and goodness that Aslan seems to reflect in the Narnia books. He's above all my favorite character, and is what I loved best about the books. Once again, splendid job and I'd love to see more Narnian art from you, as you seem quite good at it ^^

Knew it was Aslan. What a beautiful picture! The colors, the shading, Aslan and how realistic everything looks...simply gorgeous.
I can't wait to see that movie! Supposedly it stayed pretty close to the original story. Hopefully, they'll be completing the series. If they don't at least follow up with Prince Caspian, I think I'll just about scream.

I love how he glows! I thought Aslan's mane might be longer and big. But I really love his pose and distant look. Great job!
(I just finished reading the 2nd book again, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" on to book 3!)

And now you've got me wanting to go and spend time on that site...must...not...procrastinate.... gah! I've been seeing the trailers running every five seconds and they make me drool.
Lovely work on the piece here; it gives a great mood even if it was just a quick 'scribble'.

Simply beautiful! Aslan is well colored and you've got the lion body just right. His pose is wonderfully put in front of the gate. I love how the moon is set in the backround, but still emits a glow that lights him up.

Very beautiful! I love how his golden orange coat contrasts with the wintery dull blue around him. Eee, wonderful job. I can't wait for the movie either! Although I do wish that they had done The Magician's Nephew first. (But this book is more popular, so I understand, but still! X3)

I thought Aslan when I saw this--it's truly beautiful! If it wasn't for the snow, I'd be reminded of the Magician's Nephew, when Jadis (the Witch) runs away from Aslan and the Talking Beasts.
