Well I spent about 3 hours on the Narnia movie website this morning watching and rewatching all their clips on the making of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and just tinkering about on the site. I am truly excited about the film and it just made me really hungry to draw Aslan. I adore the broody/moody colors used on the website and in a lot of posters/concept images for the film so I was definetly inspired by what I saw and thus my chosen colors.The idea is Aslan simply guarding Narnia and even in frigid frozen tundraw under the White Witch's rule he will bring light and life in his passing. This is also dedicated to all the people I know that have been facing some very difficult life situations. Even in the darkest hour there is hope.
All right I shall stop being sappy now.
Technical details...really it is a quick unplanned speed painting. I should have probably taken more time to develop the concept and work on perspective and design etc but honestly I just wanted to paint. I didn't want to take anything serious or make it perfect and flawless (and flaws abound there are!). I just needed to paint..thats all.
Tools: ps 7 simple brushes
Time: err really don't know..I multitasked so probably 3-5 hours
Size: 3100x4500 pixels (started smaller though as I didnt expect it to go anywhere)
Prints: yes, larger prints available through me if there is interest.
Critique: serious ideas are welcome but since this is a quick piece I am unlikely to work on it again. However I welcome suggestions for future pieces.

It is very beautiful but I think that front leg is an odd shape. It lookes very stiff. Lovely bg and great work for only 5 hours!

Aslan!! OMG!!! This is absolutely incredible!! Since you have it set to 'critique discouraged' I'll be nice and sum up everything I have to say in: the composition is lovely and I adore the entire style of the piece.
I'm going with two friends to go see the midnight showing. I'm soooooo excited!!!

This is awesome for a quick piece! It seems so warm where Aslan is, yet so cold in the background and where Aslan isn't... (erm... hope that makes sense..)

this would be kickass if you re-fined it, I think you oculd really pull off an amazing piece if you went all out on it. Sorry, I know it says Critique Discouraged, but you could pull off wonders on this.

omg this is gorgeous! i really love the background. this has totally brightened my day, i love seeing narnia fanart, especially if it's aslan x) you did such an amazing job portraying his character. he looks so strong and noble, yet he has such a sweet and gentle face. if i were with him, i would feel safe and secure :3

I think an ornate, more flat arch would be better suited because the perspective seems a bit forced.
Everything else - and I mean EVERYTHING - the lion, the fortress, the stones, the grass is beautifully rendered.

I can't wait for the movie this friday... but I am really worried that Disney will mess too much up.
examples just fro mthe chomercials: main centuar should be white, the white witch's sled should be drawn by white horses, not polar bears... both detail may seem insignificant, but both are very relivant to the original books.
But in any case, this is a gorgious picture! I love it!

Oh, wow. The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe was the first fantasy book I ever read and it was for school at the time! Anyway, I fell in love with it and this picture very strongly resembles the artwork of the person who did the original illustrations, Pauline Baynes. I'm definitely interested in buying a print, but probably not until after Christmas. I still have to buy presents for people.

i bought the book that has all the stories in it for like..12 bucks >D and got my little nine yr old sister, who is far too lazy and bratty to pick up a book to read, interested in the story. she spent hours on the website too!!

That is SO wonderful. Alsan has always been a favorite character of mine, I'm amazed at how well you portrayed him. The use of colours from the clips and such reall worked well, it has a very nice glaw to it.
