Description
Practice paint to further reaquaint myself with acrylic painting on illustration board but moreover practice some fur techniques. I'm not 100% happy with how it turned out and I'm learning rapidly for better results I should work bigger than 8x10". The only problem there is I have no good way to photograph/scan bigger pictures with good results.Tools: acrylic paint on illustration board
Time: 5 hours? give or take
prints: yes if there is any interest that is XD
size: 8x10 inches
I may move this to scrap later if I get horribly upset with it
**edit** plinked around with it a bite more adding more color highlights to the fur so it didnt feel so apart from the background. I hope it looks a wee bit better

theres somthing about imperfection through traditional mediums that seems more realistic to me than what could ever be pulled off with Photoshop
You've done a fantastic job here and I'm really glad to see some traditional medium work from you Very nicely done. I'm looking forward to seeing even more of your work this year

The colors of this particular picture go very well together even though they are indeed very different. For example, I would never have thought of combining red and turqouse, or even imagine that it would end with such a splendid result!
The skunk's expression is really adorable, and it reminds me of the skunk character in 'Bambi'. It is all adorable and innocent, but yet wise... Something which is only enchanted by the apple it has on its lap n_n
I also really like the fact that it indeed is a skunk, because they are not very often portrayed n_n
The highlights are very nice, and placed just where it gives the picture the justice n_n
Keep the amazing work up!

Your acrylic skills are amazing... The advice my art teacher gives us: layers upon layers upon layers upon... etc. It works well for me. 8 x 10?! That's too small, mate... the minimum size for my paintings is 11 x 14.

My acrylic skills have been long put in the closet. I used to paint exlusively in acrylic then I switched to cg when I got my tablet and started developing skills in that, now I am bouncing between the two. I think it is important to not be profficient just in the digital medium as many people ASSUME that digital art is 'not art' as they think cg= shortcust and the computer doing all the work for them. Thats not true and I suppose I kinda want to show that artists can do both and neither is less of an art than the other, if that makes sense.
As for size, yes, I stayed small since my scanner is well..crap and I cant scan any bigger than 8x10 and the scanner goes a long way to eat the color anyway. You can't really see a lot of the color in the fur of the skunk on this one since my scanner also has a tendency to eat blues. Also I figure learn how to work small then move to bigger paintings. But working this small is a killer on your eyes...

It always ticks me off when people think that cg is not art... Acrylic is my second favourite paint, next to watercolour. It's so easy to use!
My scanner is the same... I hate it. I scans the colour wrong and is just screwey. I've gone from working with no bigger than 9 x 12 to no smaller than 11 x 14. You have to start small.

Everything looks really great except the apple, which looks kinda flat compared to the fullness of everything else. I dont think there is enough shadow on it. Great job tho. i like the white fur on the top of his head the best
