Description
A preliminary sketch for a painting I hope to start relatively soon. I always adored sunsets..and most especially African sunsets...something so clean and pure in that golden light. Hopefully the final painting will turn out at least somewhat close to the image I see in my headThe sketch itself is about 10 inches by 5 inches.
tools: mechanical pencil on vellum
A special thanks goes out to my dear friend ~Faizah , without whom this sketch probably would not have come to fruition! Thank you for the inspiration
EDIT: Moved this to my formal gallery because of all the kind comments it has received. I often upload sketches to my scraps, not because I view them as 'scraps' or less worthwhile than the deviations in my formal gallery, but because sometimes I truly appreciate the attention my scraps get over my formal pieces. I appreciate the effort on the part of the people that watch me in taking a little more time to look at ALL my work. Also sometimes I post pieces in my scraps simply because it helps me stay confident about pieces that are still in the working stages, ie sketches that may turn into paintings etc. SO an extra special thank you to all those that go out of their way to look at my scraps and not only that but also take time to comment, encourage me and even go so far as to fave the pieces. YOU remind me how lucky I am to be part of this community on a daily basis.

Will you ever color/paint it? I really love the atmosphere in it and the leopards expressive face. Would be great in color.

Wow, please tell me how you do such beautiful work, it looks completely flawless. Also how much time does it take to do something like this? It must take a while just for the initial sketch.

well this sketch took about 4 hours I think..give or take. Paintings take much longer obviously, I'd say about 4 times longer than the sketch..on avg...but there really isn't any precise timetable for how long any given piece takes..really depends from one piece to the next .

As always the level of detail to be found in these things is amazing. The pencil work alone is stunning, and I wonder how you find the time. Then when you turn around and add color, keeping the same level of detail... well, you definately should have a masters degree in the arts bestowed upon you.

It's SO gorgeous! All your work always is, but still, I love everything about this. I was thinking my comment out in my head when I saw it and was just all "I love the texture of the fur, the bark. I love that facial features, the posture, and that tail!...I just love everything! x.x" I really can't think of much else to say, I'm just stuck on "I love everything" and can't seem to move on
