Part 2 or a commission for (worgun-tyre) of his lion character Woorg(I hope I spelled that right this time!). This is a closeup of the lion.I will admit, of the two characters, the lion was the bigger challenge for me, surprising really since lions are my favorite critters. Still the mane drove me insane for a good week and well is still driving me insane! Please no critique, I already know where the mistakes are
and I do well to give myself a hard enough time 
.Though the character was a challenge, I rather enjoyed creating him. I perceived him in holding a sort of depth, a wisdom that spanned the ages, a very proud lion. So I hope he sort of conveys those thoughts. Now again, creating such a scene from scratch is not altogether easy, especially in rendering lighting on not onlky his mane but face.

I like to paint lions too! I do their manes a little differently (only got Photoshop 6) but they devinitely are darker in color away from the face!

Incredible, I'm at a lose of words, I'm trying to make my animals look realistic and thats not easy as I've come to find out but you make it look easy! Awsome! My art is mostly fanart, Hiei from YYH.

It is good that your gallery is diverse. I used to do predominantly fanart too so no shame in that at all. You just gotta force yourself to try new things and practice realism over and over and over again. It took me a tooon of tries to get where I did....and though each new pic I did didnt necessarily look like what I wanted...I always learned something new and step by step got to where I am

As for painting manes, why don't you treat it like all the other furr, especially the way you did the furr on top of his head and his chinny-chin-chin? Those look like good mane textures. Great job altogether. I would have been gone nuts!!

Very impressive detail on this one. I couldn't begin to guess how long that mane took you. The expression is very nice and peaceful too

I really cant recall to be honest how many brushes I used! A lot of this picture was experimentation just trying to develop the techniques I needed to carry the final piece through! The mane..oooh the mane. I struggled with it from the get go..I think I ended up redoing at least 3 times before it started to move in the direction I wanted! Truly was frustrating but in some strange way gratifying!

Always amazed! He looks beautiful. Rather then think of this as critique, please consider it only but a suggestion. Perhaps pull the mane back more and give him more forhead and cheeks. That could be what's bothering you. I know when I can't put my finger on something, people have suggested things, and if I try it out, it gets me closer to what it is sometimes. I think the way you've painted the mane looks realyl nice. It has alot of depth, as though I could pet him and there would be thick full fur there.
