I had this image done a while ago, and forgot to post it... Haha.Anyhoo... As a kid I loved Garfield... Hell, even now I love the older strips... And despite what people say... He USED to be funny...
Jim Davis just didn't know when to quit... He whored the poor cat out this way and that which resulted it pointless merch just to make money(Tho some of the merch I like *stares at giant Garfield toy)... And when he started using almost exactly the same jokes in his strips it was kinda clear that Garfield should come to an end. The only thing that really developed in a positive way was Jim Davis' drawing quality.
Though I sometimes wish I had some great Calvin and Hobbes merch, Bill Watterson has gone on record saying he wanted to write the strips and let them speak for themselves, and stopped writing the strips because he didn't want to sully the the respect and admiration the fans had developed for the characters... Which is great... I only wish Jim Davis had done the same...
... So here's my tribute to Garfield... The good ol' days

The only funny thing about the comic now is that "Garfield Minus Garfield" strip... It's hilarious.

I was a fan as well and I really enjoyed the 80's cartoon (which is a lot better than the modern TV movies). Say, have you been to the Garfiled Minus Garfield website?

Kinda freaky when you think that he also played Peter Venkman in the Real Ghostbusters cartoon, and then Bill Murray, who was Peter Venkman in the Ghostbusters movies was the voice of Garfield in the live action movies. It's gone full circle
Yeah, I've seen some of Garfield Minus Garfield... Pretty sad that they comic strips don't change much after Garfs is removed. Time Jim Davis quit me thinks.

It's a shame Lorenzo Music (the original voice actor) is no longer with us. While GMG does make John more delightfully insane, it is kind of sad for the reasons you mentioned. Though Jim Davis actually likes the comic so much (Davis said it brought an interesting new angle to Garfield) that he helped him publish a collection of the strips. But I agree, he does need to retire much like the creator Funky Winkerbean\Crackshaft, Lynn Johnston, and Brooke McEldowney.

Yep... Sadly, you can't go to the garfield.com site without being bombarded with some new kinda merch trying to be sold of to you... Pointless, useless merchandise that you probably wouldn't find a use for if you did buy it.

Yeah, I agree that Garfield should have stopped years ago. There's only so much humor in a fat, lazy cat, a dorky owner, and a stupid dog.

Well, they do look good overall and all, Odie is nicely done. It's just something you did with Jon's face that is bugging me but I probably would have done the same thing or something similar once... It's his nose, you tried to shade it and tried to make it more like a "normal" human nose and yet keep the linework more or less intact... and maybe Jim Davis or one of his artists once tried to do that but it doesn't look quite right. Jon's nose is impossibly close to his face in the comics, if I'm not mistaken. But that is all minor stuff and your attempt at it is very well done, nonetheless. Good job.
Oh, and about the blog, don't worry about it, the author hasn't updated it in forever, it was last updated at the beginning of last year, I think. It's kind of like this other site I used to go to called EmotionEric(.com). I liked it a lot but didn't go often but it was kind of tiring to go there once in awhile and the updates just stopped coming.

Hahaha... Yeah, the original sketch had their arms in differnt positions, and Garfield was all frowny, but considering the reason I did the image I thought it didn't fit too well
