Next time you go lightning shooting, (you have a good camera so this should be relatively easy for you) leave your shutter open for long amounts of time..
This way you'll catch more light and more lightning.. It's a trick my brother taught me.. Leave your ISO to rough 160
Depends on the light aswell, try to avoid city lights or lamps.

Due to the high ISO speed an me not shooting RAW, the color was horribly off. It just looked better BW. Also, for the longer shutter opening: It was really a quickshot, out my window and I didn't have my tripod at hand
Next time I'll be prepared though. There are thunderstorms galore at the moment, due to the general hotness.
