I drew this as an entry for a Movember contest that asked for a portrait of a man who represents positive values. I chose Superman not for his physical strength, but for his spirit. A scene in Grant Morrison's "All-Star Superman" was my inspiration:

A trembling young woman sobs on a ledge with hundreds of windows beneath her feet, the sidewalk just a thin strip below. Hands clasped together, shegathers herself for the final leap. As she closes her eyes, an unmistakable red and yellow "S" appears behind her. A burly hand grasps her shoulder with gentle firmness. She whips her head around to see Superman holding her back from tumbling over the edge. He only says, "You're much stronger than you think you are. Trust me."

This is piece was featured in the November 2014 challenge of the month by youtube artist "Draw With Jazza." It's a fun contest and I recommend it to anyone who might be interested.
