Finally reaching my seat to watch my son Matt, the coaches come over and explain that, per state rules, everyone on the field needs to wear a helmet, including my now headless son Matt. You see, a few years ago there was this magical accident that gave us the power to detach and reattach our heads safely. In surely his brightest moment, he gave away his head to impress a girl at school this week and he didn't get it back by Friday for the game. His practices seemed to go well though from what I saw but rules are rules and the coaches were begging to have their star running back in the game against our rivals.

I did what any mom would do - I put my hair in a ponytail, went to the bench and yanked my head off and put it on Matt's body so he could play. Matt's body seemed excited about it all and strapped the helmet over my head. We'd work together, his mama's smarts and his young, powerful muscles. Sure the other team was spooked seeing a headless player in warm-ups but now they'd have to contend with the both of us!

Me, that is, my body, went back into the stands to cheer on Oakridge, most of the folks around me were familiar with our condition but it's still shocking to see a headless mom clapping and cheering along. The cool autumn wind did feel good on my stump but I might need to bring a scarf if he does this again. I wore his other jersey for good luck and we even scored a touchdown to seal the game!

The team decided to carry them off the field. I mean, they twisted my head off his body and held me up like a trophy. I'm sure my head loved to feel handled like that, in the grip of those strong hands. Meanwhile Matt's headless body was on the shoulders of the other guys as they carried them both to the locker room. I'd stick around but his older sister is back in town from college and I'll want to spend time with her so she's taking me back home. I wonder how my head's soaking in the excitement and bring surrounded by happy, hormone-driven players. Matt will have to fill me in when he gets back with my noggin, I'm just going to send a text saying "nice game stud! you deserve something for that great game!"
