Link from Twilight PrincessThis was taken at the Renaissance Festival this past weekend (which was uber fun). And I've been talking about my Link costume in my journals for the longest time, so I thought I'd treat you guys to a picture.
Now... that wig definitely needs to be fixed, I know. XD I need to fix its poofiness. And as for the reason why I don't have chain mail--there are three reasons: 1) It's very hot where I live and so I probably would have collapsed from heat exhaustion. 2) I'm a fairly small and petite person with little muscle and upper-body strength... I would have collapsed from exhaustion. XD and 3) I am a college student whose money is mainly going to tuition... I can't afford chain mail. XD You can also apply that to the reason why I have a flat, homemade shield, too. But I DO have a better (and much, much heavier) wooden shield that I will use for more serious photoshoots.
I want to have an actual photoshoot with Link sometime soon... hopefully I'll get to do it so I can show you guys.

It looks awesome, even without chainmail.
BTW, have you thought about trying the cheap/lighter alternatives to actual chainmail (spray painted wool loops worked well enough for Monty Python, XD)?

I don't know much about it (I only know it was used in Monty Python and some more recent movies, here's a youtube clip where you can see the costumes: [link] ).
As for actually making them. What they apparently did was knit shirts using string and large kneedles then paint them. You could always try and find a knitted item of clothing and use that.
Either way, it's basically a case of finding the knitted clothing and spray painting it silver. It was good enough for some of the shots in LotR too, so presumably if you find the right shirt it looks convincing.

You could also try making your own chainmail (it's basically case of producing metal rings from wire and clipping them together). But that's quite labour intensive.
