Description Some art for Robotech: Genesis Pits by Palladium Books [link]

UEEF Exploratory Corps soldier in CVR-3 "Ride Armor". Armed with a H-90 Gallant modular energy weapon system in "rifle" mode, and an RL-6 60mm Rocket Launcher slung over his shoulder. Finally, a shemagh adds a jaunty accent, and personalizes him a bit. This is one of four pieces I did that got into the book, and one of two cyclone riders.

Funny thing is, when I was initially drawing this, I was drawing from the head, down. Before I drew in the legs, the most common comment I got while drawing this at MidWest FurFest [link] was, "Is that Master Chief?".

Wow.

It does kinda look like him, in an EVA-permutation helmet. (Then again, if you hunt down some of the MOSPEADA pre-production art by IMAI, there looks like a few armor permutations in there!)

Actually, the flashback armor is what people call CVR-2 IIRC. The only other place I've ever seen it was it may have appeared in the old Eternity comics for The Sentinels. Not sure if lineart has been located for it yet though. Just wonderin....

Just to ask the dumb question, but why wouldn't the UEEF Explorer Corps wear the Colonel Wolfe flashback armor? CVR-3 isn't remotely capable of serving as an actual environment suit (despite the claims of the RPG). Did Palladium not have a clean piece of artwork for the Wolfe armor? (Not being snarky, just honestly curious).

Most of it was random, based on what reference material I had on hand at the moment. And I don't have any of the comic books - haven't even managed to read through the one Jack McKinney book I bought randomly at a bookstore. (Digging around on internet - oh, episode "Eulogy") Ah, c'mon, really? I haven't seen anything like that in the Imai files! Yeah, I managed to find & download those production drawing files for future reference. But I really should also pick up that Shadow Chronicles art book to see the reference material in there.

Also, that armor that he wears for the flashback would likley have been phased out for the UEEF by the time of the Cyclone. The CVR-3 was designed to be augmented with the Cyclone series of power armor, kinda throwing it into Starship Troopers territory.

Finally, there's the Shadow Chronicles - which is officially the new continuity (notice how we have to call everything "UEEF"... man, "ARR DEE EFF" and "ARR EEE EFF" were so much easier on the tongue, only being three letters each...) - and we have to work in that.

But then again, who knows. I can't recall seeing that flashback armor anywhere in the previous RPG books, but maybe it'll pop up in UEEF Marines now that you've mentioned it. It almost does, by chance, look like a halfway point between the CVR-2 and the Southern Cross era body armors.

i love how you add those little characterful touches to the robotech art. i mean, this guy's shemagh, the Freedom fighter's Blamoral Bonnet and big burnside's beard [link] , they really liven up the the feel of the books. watching the show unless your a named character, you basically come across as a stock background character. this kind of art really emphasizes how each one is actually a person who's the hero of their own story.
