I absolutely LOVE Tamora Pierce, never read much Anne McCaffrey. Another good feminist series is, though... A Song of Ice and Fire, first book being Game of Thrones. If you haven't read it, it's got an absolutely wonderful set of female characters, all of which are pretty complex, strong, and not stereotypical.
For shows, Firefly is pretty freaking amazing, for the same reasons

Game of Thrones? I'd love to read/watch that one day. And Firefly is also on my list. I have a recommendation for a book: The Mists of Avalon, which was really good, with one major hiccup.
What I liked about it: Showed that Christianity is not necessarily anti-feminist, and the Old Religion isn't necessarily feminist. Both sides of the struggle act like assholes. And then, at the end, Morgan realizes that Christianity and the Old Religion can coexist, and that neither one is necessarily more true than the other. Guinevere's a pretty strong character (in that we know that love/lust isn't all that motivates her and why).
MAJOR COCK-UP ON THE PART OF DIANNA WYNNE JONES: Date-rape of Lancelot being treated as necessary and COMPLETELY OKAY just because it's a woman who does it. Let me explain the situation. Lancelot and Guinevere are being completely and totally obvious with their trysts. Arthur doesn't really mind, he, Guinevere and Lancelot have a threesome to begin with (no, it's Arthur/Gwen/Lancelot, Arthur's not gay, but that would add an extra twist on everything 
Show recommendations: Avatar: The Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (really great show, don't turn your nose up at it), Arthur the Aardvark, Daria. I've also heard Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Xena: Warrior Princess are good, although I've never actually seen them. Feministfrequency seems to think they're good, and I trust her opinion.
