Description
What can i tell you about this one? It's purpleI worked on it for three days on and off. A lot of the time just staring at my monitor, trying to figure out what i could improve or what would make the picture more interesting...
(and I'm not talking about the signal lights). And even after I had almost finished, it still took me about two hours to get it looking like this.
Nevertheless I enjoyed working on it a lot and I am very satisfied with the result.
Please don't give me any comments about stuff like: thats not realistic...
and yes, i do know that the landscape is not horizontal...
Layers: 200+
Programs: terragen (original render size 4000x1600)
+ photoshop cs (original size 2000x1600)
comments and
enjoy.

The signals remind me of a brushset 'make your own lasers' or something like that.

I reckon the gas-giant planet turned out really well, I often see gas giants in space art but they seem to have bands of clouds too smooth. but this one actually has turbulent storms in it's clouds. was there a texture applied over it ?
( by the way, I'm talking about the second biggest planet-in case theres two gas giants ).
And do I see a palm tree on the mountainsaide ?

thx for the comment. well it's been a while since i made this, but while making a planet i usually involve more than one texture so it's very probable i did. yea that tree was just a little extra,
for spotting it

sorry for the late reply as well.. to your question:
doesn't mean much right now, we're a group searching for artists that don't get the attention they deserve.. you are one of those.. as our group (hopefully) continues to grow you'll be rotated through the journal thus trafficing more attention your way ^.^

Kinda reminds me of the opening scene to the show Firefly. In the opening scene there is a valley much like this one where there is a war going on Independents vs the Alliance. Very mystic color usage here. Nicely done. ^.^

I stand in awe of this picture
Really marvelous work. And yeah I could whine about the jaggedness of the rocks or opacity of a planet or two, but actually, that would make it too realistic, and that's not really the beauty of this picture. It is the concept of space, unknown territory etc etc displayed near to realism that makes it a very intruiging picture to look at (a little artistical freedom ). So if I were you, i'd leave it just like this, but hey, that's my opinion ofcourse hehe.

I have been doing a lot of space scenes, but i dont know how you get that sharpness look - especially on the gas giant. Do you make a very large image, sharpen and then reduce the size? whats the secret?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Baro In reply to oruwu [2006-05-23 09:23:46 +0000 UTC]
Glad you like it. Well i nearly allways resize the image when i'm done. This is good to get rid of areas that look a little smudgy. The sharpen tool is excellent too, if you use it wisely.

I gotta say, it's very reminiscent of Halo. You know, the first level off the ship, with all the signal flares launching up.
