Description
I'll post more Equestria dreamscape stuff next week. For the last couple weeks we have been preparing at my day job for the double whammy of one of the biggest sale days of the year then followed a few days later by inventory. This has left me with not a lot energy for writing. So in the meantime have some more aviation doodles. This time assorted tilt-rotors.I have been fascinated with the concept since I was a little kid. It is interesting to see them slowly coming into actual use with the US Marine Corp. It is design idea that has more than its share of ups and downs, unfortunately the downs in this case have been crashes, but it appears to an idea that still has some much potential in several areas.
These are three different roles I was tinkering around with for tilt-rotor use. Two seat ground attack/scout, small to medium transport and intercity airliner. Unfortunately for my ground attack variant I need to move those rocket pods inward or I fear they'll blow the props off if they are fired during full forward flight. Oh well, this is why you do little sketches like this. To work out problems before you try something final.

the top-right one almost looks a bit cartoonish, while the bottom-right reminds me of a Lockheed Super Constellation. As for the outboard rocket pods on the left one, perhaps there could be some sort of system to lock them out when the rotors are within a certain angle to prevent the mishap you mentioned, or make it that those hardpoints can only carry bombs or other such payloads that wouldn't threaten the props?

My favorite is the bottom right. Having a commercial one would be awesome, I'd buy a ticket just to sit in one!

I am not certain I understand exactly what you mean. Are you referring to what theoretical role the vehicles would fulfill and then designing something that looks like it could do that job?

You're stating the obvious on my comment initially. Also, your design skills basically are really good. The results look nice, style of work is enviable,"to me",wish I could do better,I'm still a beginner, especially, when I'm using a tablet. Just keep drawing, your work is really exceptional.opcrn:

Well I didn't have any real direction with any of these I just started throwing lines down on the paper. I sketched these out while talking with several people one evening over beers.

Fun Fact: The DOS game LHX: Attack Chopper featured the V-22 Osprey as a playable aircraft and heavily influenced my ability to use the computer and gave me the desire to draw and design.

Yeah the V-22 is a very polarizing aircraft with some folks. Either you think it is the greatest thing in the world, or it is greatest boondoggle in the history of avaition.

I read that Dick Cheney tried to get the project canceled citing the crashes as good reason.
The only thing I don't like about the current craft is that they removed the nose weapons and decided that they would provide cover from the rear bay during a drop. With the front guns, they would've been able to clear a LZ that much quicker.

Well,I look at like this,B2,V22,F22,F35 have these factors,Too expensive, due to development,Too risky to use for their assigned jobs, and, too many flaws, due to suspect quality of parts, and various headaches, maintenance wise, for everyone of these high priced recruitment posters.
