There is a mortifying blight on the world
Over which both men and angels lament
The propensity of frail and fearful men
To offset their weakness with violence

A terrible dearth of human compassion
When souls are seen through crosshairs
Down cold, hungry barrels of blued steel
An appalling desecration of life’s value

How apt that a gunshot is titled a “report”
How well it expresses its final testament
Well is a trigger shaped like a plowshare
Behold how adeptly it digs fallow graves
