NaHaiWriMo 2023 poem #17 (a tanka poem) for HaikuWriMo

Inspired upon reading "The Argument " by raido-ehwaz

One of the tragedies of life is that tragedies, wounds and deep pain will
eventually come to all of us. The bliss of innocence is, more often
than not, as fleeting as a late summer zephyr. Armed with
that sad dose of harsh reality, we begin to learn the
weapons of self-defense, and begin to mourn
the loss of all of our cherished illusions.

Bonus Haiku:

Humans learn
To bristle with barbs
We are thistles
