Edward is a very wise and old engine who was built in 1896. Edward may be old but he still has his uses. Gordon, James and Henry sometimes think he's not useful anymore because of his age, but all the other engines, including Flying Scotsman have full respect for the old engine. Edward sometimes works as a back engine, helping engines with heavy loads up hills. Edward is also a very good storyteller, telling his friends amazing stories, some of them include his youth. Edward never gives up and even though he's an old engine, he still does his best to please others.
