Ever since I got into railways when I was a kid, I always preferred steam engines and I was sad to hear that diesels had replaced them, despite that some steam engines are still preserved. I was only young at the time, but I truly wasn't very fond of diesel locomotives, even in Thomas & Friends. But there were a few acceptations of course, Daisy, BoCo, Bear, Mavis, Salty, Derek and even Rusty. But as I grew older, I learned that right now, diesels are in the same boat as steam engines, being withdrawn and sold for scrap. This is a picture me seeing the remains of what was once a hardworking Class 40. I always used to think that diesels never faced the scrapyard but I always hoped they did when I was younger. Now that I am much older now, I have realised that what I always hoped for was actually happening, and like with steam engines, it feels...wrong. To me, this is truly terrible and it was undeserved, even for diesels like Diesel, Arry, Bert, Spamcan (D199), Bowler (D261) and even Diesel 10. What those naughty diesels did in the past was truly not right, but this...diesels being scrapped is too far as a punishment. No engine should ever have to go through this. Because of what I learned, I now have respect for both steam and diesel engines, hoping that both types will always be preserved.
