Well i have over 100 color pencils at my instant disposal lol
They can be kinda annoying when you have to mix a few or more colors to fine the right shade like i did here in several instances. But shading is a breeze, you just use a a more concentrated color or use the same pencil harder.

Mmm, yeah. I understand how to use color (though I don't use pencils often for it when I do it), I just fear I'll muck everything up. I have quite a few colored pencils at my fingertips, but I don't use them; it's a shame. There are a few things that I need to color, so they may be made use of soon...

(Lol, yeah most people do but I only have Crayola ones, so they're super limited XP)
If you fear ruining a picture so much try doing a sketching picture entirely in color pencils for fun 'til you feel confident in using them.

Looks good to me, especially if you're not used to inking. Ringlet-haired girl's eyes turned out really well. It's a bit rough around the edges, but I think that adds character to it. ^_^
