gosh i remember when i had pearl and i had this whimpy team with an op infernape named Almia

needless to say that i only got to defeat her later when i had a more balanced in platinum

I feel that, but tbh I like the newer ones. Multiplayer is so much more interesting - they feel less like they're made harder because there's jackshit to do after the end so they pad it with mandatory grinding? Pokemon never felt 'difficult' just 'tedious'. now its like 'okay fine, here's all the content - do as you like!' and theres more to play with with out as much uphill battle to get to it
