Description I've been messing with this for hours, but there's something about it I just can't put my finger on that's wrong with it color-wise. x___x

Apparently shading light colors is a lot harder than I anticipated. (I go from dark to light, so when the darkest color is pretty bright it gets difficult...)

I thought adding purple to the shading would help, but it looked tacky except in the darkest areas. x___x

So... Yeah. Help? D:

*edits* Thanks for the crits. ^^
Alright, added shading in complementary colors, better? Any other tips?

Hmmh I see the issue here, you are using the same depth of uniform fur 'shading' all over the body, this makes it seem like you have no light source.
To fix this you should use your fur shading color lighter towards where the light should be falling on the characters and darker (more defined like you have now) where the shadows would fall on the character. As it is with the texture defined SO HARD all over they look a little unnatural. Use light to define the fur too not just shadow.
It also helps a picture WONDERS if you put some complimentary colors in your shading. For example on golden she is light yellowish, to deepen her shading add some dark mauve. On Foxis his main color is orangey so you should add a little blue to his shading. [link] that is a breakdown of complimentary colors and how to use them.
Alternatively if your light source has a color you can also shade both in the complimentary color to your lightsource.
I just think it needs a little more shading/highlighting definition than just in the fur, Foxis's hindquarters and tail are already looking good in that respect but Golden looks very flat.

I do however think it is an amazing WIP sofar and the poses are really sweet, I love how golden's face is coming out and I can't wait to see them in a finished pic!

Sorry if my critique is a little harsh :}

Thanks, I wouldn't have asked if I wasn't prepared for harshness. ^^

Blue might do it, I was trying to use a dark purple and it looked awful. I'll go work on the light source right now.

If you want to add depth just ctrl+click on the colour layer, create a new layer, then start painting in those dark complimentary colours with a soft brush. set that new layer to multiply and fiddle with the transparency until it looks right. I also advise a layer mask if you want parts more transparent than others.

BY THE WAY, I AM SO SORRY FOR LEAVING THINGS AND POOFING AGAIN. ;A; I NEED TO GO FIX THAT IMMEDIATELY BEFORE I'M CALLED TO MY JOB AGAIN BUT WHAT SHOULD I DOOO. AAAAA *runs around in circles*

YEAH, STOP POOFING, THINGS GET CREEPILY QUIET. D8

But no, it's okay.
Apparently there's going to be a Zoids event soon-ish though*wonders how that got decided*, Ploxy claimed the Berserk Fury already, I'm claiming a Genosaur, and I want to draw the Liger Zero. Nothing else is claimed yet. O:

I haven't watched zoids and I know nothing about it. XwX
But who won my auction? I should cert things and all... 8'D;; *shot* And then quickly do something with Lust.

The shading is messed up. o-o There's a complete lack of lighting except in the eyes (the shading in the fur is too uniform), and according to the shading angle, some places that should have shadow are lacking it.

It does look REALLY good though. OwO <3 So pretty!

Mythee In reply to BasiliskZero [2009-07-07 16:30:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's very very much improved! 8'D Now I think what's lacking is some final shading and lighting details, which would help define the edges of the foxes. I don't know how to explain it well... but you know how fur looks different at the edge? [link]
In shadowed edges, the details between the fur kinda poofs, and in light there's a kind of halo effect.

Yeah, I tried making the halo effect, but it looked lousy. >.< Maybe that only works on dark backgrounds..?
