Description
"The Federation Starship Enterprise pulling into Starbase Star Station India at its south central pier, viewed at a quiet hour from one of the main concourse's larger lounges."No real story here. Just an older image (more of a test) I did to get a feel for what would be visible outside one of the larger lounges in just one of Star Station India's four pier/concourse set ups. If I had an ounce more patience I would have played around with some of the texture settings on Dennis Bailey's beautiful Enterprise to make her look more "at rest," and possibly put some auxiliary vehicles(workbees and shuttles) buzzing around to add visual interest.
I'll certainly revisit this composition in more detail some day.
Update: Added some texture detail to the opposite pier walls, turned on some spotlights, and reconfigured the Enterprise to appear in a powered down state.

Thanks. It's a bit incomplete, but I was going for that "airport" look that I love. Sadly, I haven't visited these models or compositions in quite some time (years possibly).

I think this is a great image and captures the 24/7 nature of a base/airport etc..., in any time, or place. I have seen several of this type of image, though the others were centered on people in the foreground(girl in a short TOS era uniform). One point I would like to suggest, would be having some personnel in EVA suits outside working on the hull.

Thanks!
Yeah, airports and ship docks are one of my main inspirations. Of course, using descriptive terms like "quiet hour" is just a clever way to say... "I don't know how to mimic people so well."
I always want to have little people and other signs of activity buzzing about, which is one of the main reasons for my emphasis on interiors. But alas, people (and organics in general) are currently not my strong suit, and I prefer they not draw too much focus away from the main subject, which is usually the ships. I've easily included auxiliary vehicles before, but then they aren't as difficult to model and render as little Poser people, which (with my limited experience in the uncanny valley) have a tendency to betray their 3D origins even more easily. I have experimented with such things as "people-at-a-distance" in the past, but usually just in post render production and touch ups, essentially altering 2-dimensional imagery of people and shrinking them to fit within a distantly rendered interior. This has the tendency to crush their little pixels into the most impressionistic blur of the person they formerly portrayed; It's useful but time consuming.
