Description "Don't give up
It's just the weight of the world"

I really wanted to sketch something that portrayed the more tragic side of Aang's character-- that contemplative adolescent, estranged by time and culture, who, perhaps, has a little too much obligation to fulfill, and a little too much uncertainty to face. Momo will be added to the picture soon to bring out Aang's mood.

I feel estranged myself today. Was listening to this song while I sketched: [link]

Aang belongs to Mike and Bryan

Lyrics belong to Josh Groban

Lolz this is the third time I've returned to this deviation, and I'M STILL ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH IT!!

I seem to remember talking to you about mastering the Avatar State and how it made no sense at the end of the series how it just abruptly came into his grasp.

I finished revising my fanfiction that addresses this problem . . . would you be interested in reading it at all? [link]

I really like this. This is a side of Aang we never got to really see in the show.

I'm glad you like them! Especially since I took a chance on the clothing. I wanted to play with his wardrobe. His eyes were the most important element to me.

oooooh, this is so true, and so . . . sad. How must it feel to have lost so much, so long ago . . .? Great picture.

I hear Katara singing this to him
Don't give up
It's just the hurt-- that you hide
When you're lost inside
I, I'll be there to find you

Josh Groban rocks.

Thanks! Josh Groban does rock, particularly because he feeds the artistic muse. Katara singing him while approaching in this particular scene would be so epic. 8D

Yeah, his classically arranged style is just wonderful art accompaniment . . .

Oh, by the way, I think I forgot to mention, I would make Aang's eyes (as in, irises) a little bigger to fit the expression. It looks a little like his eyes are wide in surprise instead of angled in sorrow. Do you see what I mean . . .?

That would be a wonderful idea. I do see what you mean. I'll play with it and see if I can't make it look more appropriate, though I do want to keep a level of uncertainty in his expression. Thank for the advice!

I thought so, since his irises are bigger in the show, too. I think your placement of the eyebrows and arms display uncertainty perfectly.
Is he supposed to be looking straight at you or off to the side . . .? I pictured him looking off to the side, lost in thought. But now I'm not sure.

Well hello again. Have you seen The Last Airbender yet? I thought of this piece of yours when I went to see it because there's so much more Aangst.

I did! I didn't think it was anything to write home about, but there were moments I appreciated. I'm flattered you thought of this. I think Shyamalan was certainly interested in showing a more complex side of Aang-- the part that he always seems to draw into himself and tries to ignore and stuff he has to meditate to deal with-- and I thought it was a very humanistic touch. What did you think of the movie?
