She quietly gathered the bra and shirt that lay crumpled on the floor.  So as not to disturb her partner, who now lay snoring in the bed, she snuck on tip-toe towards the door.  It creaked open and she stole out into the night.  She'd gotten what she wanted; so had he.  Why bother with the confusion of waking up with a stranger?

Life had been good ever since college started.  Even now that you'd graduated and had a career, things had been pretty great.  You went to work all week at that silly firm, went out on Fridays to party with your friends and have some guy take you home.  Or to a motel.  Whatever, you weren't picky.  Just so long as the men didn't disappoint, you were fine.  That being said, you weren't a whore.  And for the record, you prefered the word "promiscuous" to slut, ho, and bitch.  You also made sure the men you spent the night with were clean.  No way would you screw a guy with any sort of issue going on down there.

It was after one such escapade that you felt like you were being watched.  No, not just watched; followed.  You kept turning around, looking over your shoulder every once in a while to check for stalkers.  You told yourself that that it was silly.  No one would be following you.  That wouldn't make any sense.

You found your way back to the subway station in the dark, and headed towards home.  The car had only two other people in it, and you were the only one who had boarded at that stop.  Why did it still feel like you were being followed?  You jumped off your seat and lept to the door as the underground railway approached your stop.  Darting through the sparse late night population, you finally made it to your apartment complex and dashed up the stairs.  Time to double lock the doors.  You listened carefully to see if anyone came up the stairs after you, but after good ten minutes of nothing but your own panicked breath, you started laughing.

"Why would someone be following me?  That doesn't even make sense!" you said aloud, as if to reassure the fact.  You gently rubbed your forehead as you stripped for bed.  It was much too hot to wear anything but panties.  And besides, that's what "whores" did right?  Might as well just fill out the stereotype.  You hated spending the entire night with your stands mainly becasue of the awkward morning after, but this time you had a legitimate excuse.  You had an "appointment" with your boss tomorrow, and missing it might result in him giving that promotion to someone who actually deserved it.

You pulled the covers over your head.  You thought it might calm your nerves, but it did the exact opposite.  The covers were thrown and you laid in bed for some time just staring at the ceiling.  Finally, you decided to sleep with your reading lamp on.  Yes, that would work.

You stepped out of the office while you finished buttoning up your shirt and fixing your hair.  You were assured that promotion now.  You'd even indulged in his whole "I'm a domineering librarian" fetish.  You only did that on special occassions.  You made your way through the abandoned cubicles, into the elevator and back out into the craziness of the city streets.  Even though it wasn't as scary in the light, there was still someone following you.  Maybe.

You whipped around, trying to catch them in the act, but only succeeded in getting a few weird glances from the people behind you.  You sighed, totally exsasperated and still worried and decided it best if you just hurried home.  You turned to continue walking but you were met with a hungry looking pair of reddish-brown eyes.

"Looking for me?"
"Holy shit!"  you jumped backwards into a poor, unsuspecting businessman.
"Are you alright, Ma'am?" he asked, in a bit of shock.
"No, there!" you pointed at the man who stood, no, floated in front of you nonchalantly with his arms crossed.
"He can't see me," the apparition droned.  You were not quite sure of what to say to the middle-aged businessman still holding your shoulder.  He looked around at where you were pointing, but failed to see anything.  Luckily, you were pretty quick on your feet.  How else did you hide your boss's affair when his wife was in the office?  Everyone else knew and would try and hint to her about it, but your turn of phrase was unparalleled.
"Um!  Someone almost got hit by a car over there!"  You put your hand over your chest and pretended to be calming yourself with a few deep breaths.  In all honesty, you were still freaking out.  What the hell was wrong with that guy?  How was he floating?  How come no one else could see him?  Were those wings?

"Are you alright now?" the nice man asked.
"Yes, I'm fine, thank you."  You quickly walked towards home, weaving through the crowded streets, pushing past the rotund tourists and clomped up the stairs back to your flat.  There was no way that creep could possibly follow you through all that, right?  Wrong.  You looked over your shoulder as you opened your apartment door, and there he was.  You opened the door with surprising force and then slammed it with as much speed as you could manage.  You looked over your shoulder again.

"Damn it all! Who are you?!"
"Name's Lovino."  Again, that bored, deep tone.  With your back pressed against the door, you took your first good look at him.  Had he not been quite so creepy, what with the whole floating business, he might have been attractive.  He was dressed in a black shirt, vest and pair of pants.  He had an annoyed pout on his face and folded his arms again.
"And you're the one who's been following me?"  You didn't like the fact that he had somehow managed his way into your apartment.

"Unfortunately."  Oh, so he was rude, too.
"Well, then why?  If it's such a burden, why are you doing it?"
"Are you an idiot?  I have to follow you."
"But why?!"
"You really aren't very smart are you?"
"Just answer me!"
"I'm your demon."
"What?"
"I'm. Your. Fucking. Demon."  There was a pause as you processed his words.  When it finally came to the conclusion that he'd repeated himself, you rephrased the question.
"What does that mean?"
"God, you're stupid!  Im your inner demons!  How is that so hard to understand?"
"Y-you can't be a demon!  Demons are just something that people made up to scare each other!"  you swallowed and seached for the door knob with your hand.  Maybe you could still get out of this.  Flee to Mexico and start a new life under the alias of Rosa.
"That's funny, because I'm pretty sure I'm a demon."  Suddenly a long black whip-like tail flicked itself out towards you.  You jumped at the unexpected motion and felt your legs begin to shake.  He unfolded those wings of his and flapped them a few times before putting them away.

"Does that prove it to you?"  You nodded your head slowly twice.
"You're not here to take me to hell, are you?"  You weren't particularlly religious, but demons only ment one thing.  And let's just say that you knew you weren't exactly a "clean" individual.
"Psh, no!" he dismissed you fears like you were a child afraid of the monster under the bed.  You didn't appreciate him making fun of you.
"Then what the hell are you doing here?"  He floated towards you, bent over, and looked into your darting eyes searching for something.  He scowled and squinted a bit.
"I'm here to help or hurt you."
"What?"

"Free Will still reigns, doesn't it, you stupid thing?  I'm here to help you get your act together, or to pick up the pieces afterwards.  You choose."
