I have Utrom Empire as well. I think it's safe to say that Quanin lost his good sense way before then, but even more so during that one scene. Its sorta like there's grim message in that book that stated that "Pride can blind." I think that is what happened to both father and son.

Very much so; I think the difference is that Krang's intentions were at the very least justified, and he probably only spiraled out of control from isolation; several centuries without the company of his own kind must have taken an incredibly heavy toll on him.

I think I've done three. IDW, 2012, and a little bit of 87 cartoon (in the reptile body that Krang's clones developed).
But yeah, I'm adoring IDW Krang.
At one point I thought it would be incredibly funny if someone gave him the Wicked treatment (or Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Visier...my favorite between the two)...and it turns out that it's not necessary; it's already sort of there.
