With Vex doggedly walking herself to the backstage area, referee Vash found herself in the company of City of Gold’s main event.

City of Gold, the VCW/Pantheon (if you asked VCW board member Faye Morgan) or Pantheon/VCW (if you asked Pantheon general manager Andy Law) pay-per-view collaboration was whetting appetites for GM Law’s Invitational tournament. Set in El Dorado, Mexico, each match on the card featured at least one golden ticket holder. Invitees Vex and Katzbalger had put on a noteworthy, if tainted, exhibition. The main event would see invitee Jean Grey putting her golden ticket on the line against local favorite Gina Martinez.

Their clash would have to wait as the card’s penultimate match remained; the physical clash, at least, as Vash’s rescuers and united front against cheating German twins then broke down with verbal sparring. Having faced each other in the past , Martinez’s submission victory over Grey was a source of public ribbing that soon turned from good- to ill-natured; the vexed X-Woman offering to get Gina a golden ticket if only to shut her up.

The brunette not looking for a hand-out, the redhead looking to even the score, both fighters’ prides had set them on a collision course in the City of Gold.
