Description I suppose you could say this photo is both a reboot and a redo rolled into one. I've done a couple others exploring the idea of Season 6B in Doctor Who fandom, with the Second Doctor, and I really enjoy how this one turned out as opposed to my earlier ideas. And yay, debut of the Cybermen in my photos!

What is Season 6B you ask yourselves? Well, to put it short, it's a popular theory that exists because if you look at the ending events of Patrick Troughton's final story "The War Games" (where he was exiled to Earth and forced to regenerate) and the beginning of Jon Pertwee's first story "Spearhead From Space" (where the Doctor lands in a field and collapses on to the ground) there exists not a trace of film or photo of a regeneration taking place, the closest being that Troughton cocked up his face enough to make it look as though he was beginning the process of regeneration. Part of this problem with their being no transitional scene, no witness to the Doctor's regeneration, was made more difficult in the published comics media at that time. There was an almost six month gap between seasons, leaving the publishers of TV Comic with nothing to show fans. So rather than sit on their hands and twiddle their thumbs, it was decided simply to continue going on, with the bulk of those stories featuring the Second Doctor AFTER the events of "The War Games", which definitively had the Second Doctor exiled on Earth but made to wait his regeneration. This came to a conclusion around the time of the beginning of Season 7 in 1970, when the strip did show the Second Doctor's forced regeneration and how his TARDIS ended up in that field in the beginning of "Spearhead From Space".

That wasn't quite so short.

Anyway, the Season 6B theory had its from there, not to mention that in subsequent appearances by the Second Doctor he seemed to have knowledge of events that he would not have been privy to (such as Jamie and Zoe having their memories of their travels with the Doctor erased) or having a Stattenheim control device to recall the TARDIS, or that around the time of the Season 22 story "The Two Doctors" both the Second Doctor and Jamie looked considerably more aged than previously (perhaps one of the reasons why BBC tends to be reluctant to do multi-Doctor stories using the surviving Classic Doctors, with Peter Davison's Fifth Doctor return in the 2007 mini-sode "Time Crash" being a notable exception with a bit of timey-wimey explanation for his own aged appearance there), or the unknown reasoning for the Second Doctor's recorder being in the secondary console room of the TARDIS (as seen in the Season 14, 1976 story "The Masque of Mandragora" which introduced the secondary console room that would be used for much of that season) when such a room was never used in his own era. Lot of unanswered questions there, for sure. BBC themselves seem to accept the Season 6B theory, in so much as they have put their own spin on it and have even referenced it in their own in-house publications to offer the explanation that the Second Doctor was granted a stay of regeneration by the Celestial Intervention Agency in exchange for doing covert missions for them. In some stories he's seen traveling with Jamie and Victoria again, and in others he's seen working with companions whose statuses are exclusive to the timeframe of Season 6B.

Suffice to say, I love the concept of Season 6B when it comes to using the Second Doctor in my figure photos. Because of a lack of Ben, Polly, Jamie, Victoria, or Zoe and lacking the skills to make a Jamie (mostly sculpting work on a kilt; Zoe would be easier as would Victoria) the Second Doctor is largely on his own in much the same way as the First Doctor, and thus I have to do what I can in imagining these on-going adventures between "The War Games" and "Spearhead From Space" with whoever I can.

So what's all that got to do with the photo above? To make a long story even longer, it means I can use an Invasion-era Cyberman in this Season 6B setting with a lack of Jamie and Zoe, and just imagine the setup of the Doctor with a new companion being forced to pilot the TARDIS into danger, with the companion looking to the Doctor hoping he has a plan. Having a couple different TARDIS interior backgrounds, I used my old Dapol one, just because I think it works for the black and white era pretty well, at least until I get around to printing out a true Second Doctor-era TARDIS interior background.

And no, I did not build that TARDIS console. That is a custom bought from ebay.

Yup! Great stuff when he did them, though I think I like the Dapol Doctor Who animations a wee bit more.

Don't think I've seen those.

They're pretty good. Similar to what Batmanmarch did, main difference is he uses Dapol and scale figures in that 3.75" range. His vocal impressions of Sylvester McCoy and Tom Baker (in the special episode "Fourth Night" that had the Doctor go back to the eve of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot) are some of the best fan impressions I've ever heard.

Sounds intriguing, I'll have to see if I can locate them...

For sure!

You can easily find them on Youtube by searching Dapol Doctor Who Adventures, usually it's the first or among the first results you get. In addition to the voices, the effects are also pretty great too.

This is fantastical! I am old enough to know Patrick Troughten. Even though Tom Baker will always be THE doctor, I still revere Patrick. Great work! S
