Description
Kind of an old piece I've had on ice for awhile, for just a couple reasons. First being that it annoyed me when I would get the comment of "You're doing the 'Doomsday Device' all wrong" from those who believe they're in the know. Well, to a point they're correct and another point they're wrong: this isn't the Doomsday Device that the Road Warriors/Legion of Doom popularized. That maneuver would have Animal lift the opponent onto his shoulders while Hawk would jump from the top rope with a flying forearm smash. This move is based on a match from 1990 (or was it 1991?) that saw LOD versus the reconstituted Demolition, with veteran Smash and newbie Crush filling in for the ailing Ax. Smash was getting ready to lift Animal for a powerbomb when he wasn't paying attention to what Hawk was doing, hence this variation on that. I could have done a typical "Doomsday Device" move I just chose not to, just to see where I could go creatively with a different look on the move. The second was that I wasn't quite sure if the angle fit with the actual pose, as I originally shot this with just my computer monitor and had to adjust accordingly so that it looked somewhat realistic. Since I've finally gotten a large crowd printout that I've used in different pictures but this is one of the last using that computer monitor backdrop of a crowd.
All that said, this is one of those pieces I'm most proud in terms of upping the ante with this whole thing I do with Mattel's WWE line. The depth of the current roster is astounding, along with the quality of the articulation over what Jakks did. But where Mattel is trailing behind Jakks is taking a risk with the older generation wrestlers from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, not just from WWE, but from WCW, NWA, and even AWA. Mattel have done Hawk and Animal pretty great in terms of the figures released, with their NWA/AWA all black look as the Road Warriors being in the first assortment of their Legends series, and these new WWF-era as the Legion of Doom continuing that next phase of their careers. Just released are the blue pads-equipped Road Warriors from their final run in WCW. Should Mattel continue on in their exploration of the Road Warriors legacy, I do see them possibly doing the gold padded LOD from Summerslam 92, or the outfits worn right before they were rebranded as LOD 2000, especially in Mattel's new "WWE Hall of Fame" Elite line.

I'm sure Demolition and LOD had a great tag team rivaly.

This was an incredible crossover for me at this point. As a kid I looked at WWF and WCW as if they were DC and Marvel. So when the wrestlers switched companies, my geeky obsession with crossovers hit the roof!!

A great delivery of one of the better old set-up moves.

Looks like Hawk saved Animal from getting a piledriver or powerbombed by Smash.

Double whammie!
Funny enough,on Saturday when I was in an anime convention, there was an NJPW screening and good thing that the ticket to see it was $5.

They've started airing NJPW on cable (or satellite...not sure, the channel is AXS so I assume its considered a "basic cable" station for satellite providers).
NJPW is just some incredibly amazing stuff, I don't know much about it but what I have seen I love. Funny they showed it during an anime convention, as the only crossover with wrestling and anime I've ever seen were 4 episodes of Kinnikuman shown a few years back at a small local con I used to go to.

Hmm,sweet.
Yup,I even saw a three on three match featuring Jushin Thunder Liger,Gedo,Gotoh something and more. That was a sweet ass fight and sadly,Liger got royally gangbanged in that fight. Gedo and his team consisting of himself,Yoshi-hashi and Kazuchika Okada were buncha cheaters. Togi Makabe and Hirooki Goto were always seem to be taken by surprise and Liger was...y' know but at least Togi Makabe hands Okada his ass. The cheaters. Also,I've seen Goto's sweet Crack shot kick like Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury/King Of fighters,it was sweet.

I just want to say I am completely amazed that Liger is still wrestling. I remember being about 12 or 13 when I saw him at Starrcade just after he'd recovered from his brain tumor. He was a little overweight but you wouldn't have known it the way he flew against a younger Rey Mysterio.

Dang it. Is there still a footage of him fighting Rey Mysterio?

Oh yes, here's the match in question, it was Starrcade '96 (the one where the main event was a non-title match featuring Roddy Piper vs. Hollywood Hogan). Funny enough Mattel did release a Rey Mysterio figure in the exact attire from this match:

Not a bad match. You should put this as a journal for our club .

I could always hook you up with old anime on Youtube. Hehe. We don't always talk about old anime but also stuff from the old days especially the 90's.
