I have so much trouble drawing hands... but transformers hands take the cake. I think it's the weird forshortening you have to do on them. Same with their limbs... that's why my pics don't have a whole lot of fore shortening or detail to them. XDAnyway. I built a 3d model of a transformer/mecha hand to help me draw and thought I'd post some of the renders to help other people as well. I put it in stock, but it's really intended as a drawing reference. I suppose you could do image manip with them but it's not really made for that(black background will swallow up shadows). At any rate have fun~
If people like this, I'll be happy to do some more poses or renders. :3 just ask.

I share your pain. Since I draw in such a relatively small scale, hands gets the worst part of detailing. And when I draw them separately I am not 100% satisfied with the result.
Your render looks amazing and gives you and idea on how to articulate and decorate them, in the case you want to give more life to the hands.

damn, this spanks the version i did. i drew some hands using human hands as underlays, but i've always wanted to take it into 3D. nice job!

This is really cool, and I can see it being useful for a lot of people.
Personally, I've always had trouble with hands (human and mech), like most artists, but oddly enough I actually got closer to mastering mech ones first than humans.
Mech-style hands are often done in a huge variety of ways depending on the artist, from this sort of thing right down to the 'human hands with o-rings' style.
I developed a mech hand design very similar to what you've created here, and I actually found that once I had that in my head, I quickly improved when posing organic hands, too.

Yeah, it really does help a lot. This was a lot easier to make than the more human ones I've done in the past.
