You know, I don't know if you've ever played the MOTHER/EarthBound series, but they remind me a little of Giegue, who was the main antagonist of the first two games.
They've got a pretty rad design. I love how one of their ears has a little ring around it.

I'd recommend them; they're pretty great in my opinion, although I'm not sure if you'd like the first so much only because I don't know what your tolerance level is for 8-Bit-RPG-ness is in gameplay.
