Description                The barbed wire cut into his ankles like unnatural grass spurs. The sand forced its way into his eyes as He dragged himself along the side of the dune. Ash fell lightly onto his matted hair, each puff falling like a morbid snowflake against the bloodred cacophany of another Judgment Day.
He could hear groaning up ahead; one of his comrades, probably John. John was always getting himself into trouble, and maybe now he's been shot, but this against protocol, damn it, what do I do? His hands burned and slipped as He made his way out over the crest of the feverish dune of gravel and dead flesh.
As He gingerly made his way down the other side, his hand settled upon a cold counterpart. He slipped down the dune, glass and steel decorating his face and arms and legs with every bump and roll. Finally, He came to a crunching halt next to the broken man.
This isn't John. This broken man's uniform was stained with the same scarlet dye as his own, but the golden emblem on his jacket shined, mocking its owner with its stark independence. What did it matter to a piece of metal if its bearing-serpent's lungs were being crushed and impaled by shards of a cage of bone and steel, if his innards had begun to peek through the mess shyly, if his wire-rimmed glasses were bloodstained but miraculously unbroken? Yet the man still thinks the metal needs him.
He looks down at the traitor, and the traitor moans like an unearthly demon. You betrayed us, He thinks. He reaches for his pistol, his hands jerking and trembling like a tree in a tempest. The pistol clicks complacently. I could kill you right now... but... He starts to sob and shake uncontrollably. My mother and sisters and cousins are all dead because of you. He aims at the man's disfigured head and pulls the trigger just as the soldier emitted another cry of agony.
He falls to his knees as the emblem glimmers in the rising sun. He looks up and sees Satan, who is frowning. "Coward. Why did you not exact revenge?"
               I am not bloodless.
