"Do you want this paper, sir?"
Kyle Enteliebe looked up from his coffee and laptop, arching an eyebrow. "How old are you, kid?"
"I'll be nine next month," his visitor said proudly. "And you?"
"Didn't your mommy tell you it's impolite to ask someone's age?" Kyle sighed. "Today I'm twenty-three years, two months and six days old. Happy?"
"Do you want this paper?"
"Why would you want it?" He flipped the news journal over.
"There looked like there was a cool article about the revolution in Cur-gin-stan."
"Kyrgyzstan."
"Whatever."
"Well, I haven't finished reading it."
"All right." The kid sat down.
"Where are your parents?" sighed Kyle.
"Over there."
"Why aren't you with them?"
"Because I saw you weren't reading your paper."
Enteliebe thought for a minute. "Would you support Roza Otunbayeva?"
"Yes, of course."
"Do you even know who Roza Otunbayeva is?"
The boy blinked. Kyle grinned.
"She's the woman who took over after the riots in April. She's president now, overthrew the other guy."
"Oh. Then I don't."
"Why not?"
"Because people who don't follow laws and try to take over countries are bad."
"Is that what they're teaching kids in school?"
"Yeah," the child said smugly. "They teach us o do the right thing and try to stop war and keep our country running good."
Kyle stretched mightily as he leaned back in his couch. "Jesus, I'm glad I dropped out."
"You dropped out of school?"
"Damn right."
"Why would you do that?"
"Because of you. I would support Roza, you know, even if she had lost in the April revolution. What Bakiyev was doing was wrong."
"Well, those people and Roza are not very patriotic."
"Quite the contrary. They fought to make their country better."
"How is a confusing country better than a normal one?"
"I'd rather be confused and free than stable but trapped." Problem is, the kid had a point.
